Tata Motors launches Commercial Vehicle Driving Centre in Singrauli

Tata Motors has formally inaugurated its Commercial Vehicle Driving Centre in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh. The new centre is equipped with class rooms and a testing track. 2 modules will be conducted, one for light commercial vehicles (LCV) and the other for heavy commercial vehicles (HCV).

Each module can accommodate 25 students. Also on offer at the course are sessions on basic vehicle maintenance, first-aid, financial literacy, health, soft skills and yoga. 8 such training centres, have been opened in the last 18 months.

With India ranking the highest in the world in terms of road fatalities, improving driver skills is a much needed effort. The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has estimated a demand for more than 50 lakh drivers, over a period of 12 years (beginning in 2010). Under this new initiative, Tata Motors is looking to train more than 2 Lakh youth by 2021.

For spreading traffic safety awareness, they should have at least used a "safe" truck with good ergonomics for display. What is that primitive truck doing in a programme like this?

This "primitive" truck is the kind of truck that gets the real work done in India.
So for the programme to have any real value the drivers of these kind of vehicles should be targeted. Otherwise the programme reduces to marketing ballyhoo.
