Re: JCB launches India-developed Excavator, the JS205LC

In North India, JCB is quite popular, so much so that all excavators are called JCB! Could be because their factory is located on the outskirts of Delhi.

I think you may be confusing back-hoe loaders and excavators. Backhoe loaders are pretty much exclusive domain of JCB in India, and they are commonly referred to as JCBs.

Overall backhoe loaders are far far more popular than excavators.

Thanks for adding to my clarity!

Interestingly, according to this Wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Excavator

Quote:
Excavators are also called diggers, JCBs (a proprietary name, in an example of a generic trademark), mechanical shovels, or 360-degree excavators (sometimes abbreviated simply to 360). Tracked excavators are sometimes called "trackhoes" by analogy to the backhoe. In the UK, wheeled excavators are sometimes known as "rubber ducks."[1]
Am posting comparative pics of the two products - on the left is a back hoe loader and on the right is an excavator:
