Spotted 8-9 flat bed trucks late last night on the Panvel-Belapur highway. Each flat bed had 3 cars loaded and were headed to Mumbai.

The cars were highly camouflaged but I did manage to notice the Scorpio lettering on the tail gate.

What is interesting to note, is that all cars had a dual cabin and a soft top covering at the back.

Is this a new iteration of the Scorpio?

Those are actually Tata Xenons!

Looks like those Xenons are headed to some port and finally at some international destination.

Those are green xenons. Heading for and export military application into a country which touches us, though barely. by the way those are 4X4s. all 600 of them.

After selling Diesel Xenon for few years, TATA has introduced a petrol engine Xenon in the UAE market.

Tata does export these to the African and middle eastern markets, hence the drive to the port on the trailers.

Should be Afghanistan. Their military has been using Toyota pick up trucks for a real long time and now since India has significant investments there, it is possible that Tata is reaping the benefits of that.

Saw them last night on mumbai-pune express way 3 trucks. All of them had rear canopy, alloys and 4x4 written on them.

Why would you want to do all this when you can register the 4*4 as a private vehicle? Am deliberating between the Xenon XT & Getaway and in this process have met umpteen people who have all expressed confidence that it can be registered as a private vehicle.

Pardus who has his ownership TL in this forum also has a private number for his Xenon XT and he did mention it was a straight forward. This was further attested by KHT Folks in Bangalore.

Ashwin who manages the Sai Iyengars in Indiranagar has a Getaway which is registered as a private vehicle. India Garage & Sireesh folks have confirmed the same to me.

Am concerned and hope that you are getting dragged into a loop?

Everything you said is correct, except that his 4 rides are not XT's, they are commercial crew cabs (with load carrying capacity more than passenger carrying capacity-as per specs from Tata ).
Xenon XT can also carry as much load as a crew cab, but it has been officially limited by specs from Tata to carry only 270Kg. (270Kg< 4x70=280Kg, i.e 4 passengers apart from driver).
