India's 1st CRDe Tractor - Arjun 605 MAT by Mahindra

Mahindra is the Maruti Suzuki of tractors in India since it’s the largest tractor maker on the country. It has launched India's first tractor powered by CRDE technology.

Excerpts from http://www.indiancarsbikes.in/commer...n-india-86577/
Quote:
The Indian company has introduced the CRDE technology in the Arjun 605 Multi Application Tractor (MAT). The tractor’s price will be revealed shortly. A few years back, Mahindra was the first company in India to launch the CRDE technology to mini pick up trucks. The Mahindra Maxximo is the first mini pick up truck in India to feature CRDE diesel technology and now even the Tata Ace has a DICOR diesel engine, Tata’s name for CRDE technology.

The Arjun 605 MAT is the first tractor in India to feature the CRDE technology. The Arjun 605 MAT is powered by a 3,192cc-4 cylinder diesel engine that pumps out 60 Bhp at 2,100 rpm. Tractors are not about power but all about torque. The 3.2 liter diesel engine with CRDE technology produces a peak torque of 212 Nm between 1150 and 1400 rpm.

By giving the Arjun 605 a CRDE diesel engine, Mahindra seeks to improve both power and fuel efficiency of this tractor. Also, lower emissions and lower noise are the other benefits of the CRDE technology. The other significant features on the Mahindra Arjun 605 MAT are,

1.65 liter fuel tank for heavy duty use in the field and highway
2.Power steering
3.On board diagnostic system to detect faults in the engine if any
4.8 forward and 8 reverse gears
5.Foot operated differential lock
I am no tractor expert but I believe this is the beginning of a paradigm shift in the way tractors are made and perceived in India. Gone will be the days of noisy tractors offering minimal driving comfort to the operators. What say?

Mahindra claims to be the largest in the world! At least in terms of numbers sold. Check this:

The article claims that Tata has launched Ace DiCOR. If correct, that's news to me.

While this is a good move on paper, it remains to be seen whether it'll improve their sales in reality. Fuel adulteration is rampant in rural areas, and I'm not sure if these CRDE engines and their associated paraphernalia are resilient like DI engines or not. If they are susceptible to it, then Eicher might laugh all the way to the bank.

Cheers,
Vikram
