June 2015: Commercial Vehicle Sales

Hi everyone
Please find below figures I could pull out from public data sources.
Will update the Quarterly Financial Analysis and Average Per Vehicle Selling Price data when companies will release it.
Till that time have some fun with these numbers.

Thanks. Why are there two sets of different values for the same time of year? It's confusing.

One each for LCV's and M&HCV's.
The first chart is combined sales.

Terribly sorry for this oversight. I am swamped at work and wanted to churn out the figures :(
The first one (second image) is LCV and the second one (third image) is M&HCV.
Thanks v1kram for helping

Tata Motors:

CV sales declined 5%, primarily due to high base of the corresponding period of last year. A 19% yoy growth in its MHCV segment was offset by a 18% yoy decline in its LCV segment; the decline in LCVs was on account of a high base of the corresponding previous year period.

AshokLeyland:
Ashok Leyland continued to outpace peers in the CV segment on back of robust growth, both in the MHCV and the LCV segment. Overall sales grew 41% yoy to 10,461 units.

MHCV sales grew by a robust 46% yoy. Economic recovery along with improvement in fleet operator profitability due to firm freight rates and
reduction in fuel prices, continue to boost MHCV sales.

LCV sales also grew strongly, ie by 26% yoy to 2,413 units, led by higher penetration of Partner and continued robust growth of Dost.

Eicher:
Eicher Motors’ CV sales declined marginally to 4,163 units. Growth was dragged by the LMD segment (dipped 6% yoy) mainly due to weakness in the LMD industry. Eicher Motors’ heavy duty sales declined sharply by 15% yoy, indicating market share loss. The bus segment defied the trend, reporting a healthy growth of 8%.

So I don't see the numbers for "Bharat Benz". Is it not released by the manufacturer or too small to mention. I had seen a few on the road and thought they must be doing well.

They are doing extremely well. You could see that in dip in TML sales as well. Their ICV have made good inroads. Even AL is lost some share in southern part. In KL now BB is a house hold brand.
But they don't share their numbers with SIAM.

They release their numbers when some milestones are achieved, for eg, when they managed to sell 20,000 trucks in India recently. Frankly, I think their products are good enough but the ICV segment is very very tough to crack. Tata, ALL, VECV, SML and BB are all vying for a share and it all boils down to reach.
Still if they can manage 20k units after 2.5 years of operations, I am not sure how well are they geared to actually be relevant.

Thanks. Since they have the backing of Benz, I presume that are geared very well for this. I believe Benz has cracked almost all markets they entered in the CV including the US (Freightliner).

It is Daimler Trucks that's running the Bharat Benz business. Among the various brands under the Daimler group, these are the prominent ones in the CV business:
Daimler Trucks EU
Daimler Buses (Evobus)
Fuso
Bharat Benz
Freightliner
Western Star

The last two are under Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA), having separate platforms, while the rest of them share many common aggregates.

Daimler's strategy is to pump in money into their Chennai facility and promote the Bharat Benz brand in India for quite some time, until they are able to capture a decent share of the pie. This would happen regardless of the performance of BB brand in India during these initial years - as long as it doesn't go deep down into the red. The MBRDI office in Bangalore is already developing a lot of software components for their passenger vehicles as well as CV platforms already, and more diversification is on the cards.

Dmax is selling 1500/month?
Considering their thin dealer network, that's quite a lot!

Is the 20k mark just from Indian domestic sales. The information available is very vague as there are a lot of statements with not much specifics. BB have been pushing for exports under the Fuso brand, so does the land mark figures include them as well.
