BharatBenz range of trucks ready for BS-IV emission norms

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has announced that the entire range of 9 to 49 tonne trucks in its current portfolio will now be available in a Bharat Stage IV (BS-IV) variant across the country.

DICV will launch its new range of buses in September 2015. The company will also offer BS-IV complaint engines in its 9T front engine bus range which are used for school and staff applications.

With this step, DICV aims to meet governmental emission norms using. The new engines will use the system derived from Daimler's Bluetec technology. The company claims to have tested this technology in Indian operating conditions for over a million kilometres. The trucks and buses equipped with this system are also expected to provide better fuel economy.

The Government of India plans to implement BS-IV emission norms all over India by April 2017.

Any other news? Are they with EGR or SCR?

Re: BharatBenz range of trucks ready for BS-IV emission norms

Excellent! Daimler India shows the environment-friendly way forward! They literally come across as a breath of fresh air in an extemely lethargic industry. No price hike for the new BS4 range either!

Quote:
Commercial vehicle-maker Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Pvt. Ltd. on Friday launched upgraded trucks complying with BS IV emission norms but announced no price hike, with a top company official saying it hopes to be profitable next year.
Unsurprisingly, BharatBenz folks are quite happy that the Hon'ble SC banned the sale of BS3 vehicles after March 31. While the CV industry was saddled with 90,000+ BS3 vehicles, BharatBenz was left with only ~ 200 BS3 vehicles:

Quote:
The Supreme Court recently banned sale of vehicles not complying with BS IV norms.

"The Supreme Court made a wise decision. The industry running up BS III vehicle inventory of 97,000 is not by accident but intentional," Nesselhauf said.
BharatBenz trucks use urea-based AdBlue injection to cut down on harmful NOx emissions (just like Mercedes cars!):

Quote:
The truck's emissions complies with the new regulations with the use of an aqueous urea-based fluid called AdBlue, which is sprayed into the exhaust stream to break down dangerous nitrogen oxides emissions into harmless nitrogen and water.

The consumption of AdBlue fluid is only a fraction of fuel consumption, so refill intervals are fewer. The fluid is available at all BharatBenz dealerships.

And finally, Daimler have deservedly used their relative environment-friendliness and well-intentioned, superbly-planned shift to manufacturing BS4 trucks as an effective marketing tool. Even before these BS4 trucks were launched, I could spot internet advertising, such as the following one:

Bravo, BharatBenz!

When other manufacturers are making BS4 trucks and buses from 2010, there isn't anything special here. EGR is definitely a viable option and its untrue that only SCR is technologically superior. Also its still a matter of cost Vs Technology and If BB was slamming others for offering discounts, today without price hike, BB has started a fresh round of price war to take competition. This is also a strategy to gain traction in larger TIV segments like MAV haulage, in which BB is yet to gain momentum.
