Mahindra overtakes Tata - Now the leader in small trucks

The small commercial vehicle (SCV) space consists of mini-trucks in the 0.5-3.5 tonne range. Tata Motors has been the leader of this segment with a 48% share till 18 months ago. However, in the first half of FY 2016, this share has dropped to 36.55%. Mahindra on the other hand, has seen its share increase to over 50%, making it the new segment leader.

The company's pick-up trucks have been largely responsible for the surge in its market share. In the 2-3.5 tonne category, the Bolero and Genio pick-up trucks dominate, with a market share of around 70%.

The Tata Ace, has been leading the sub-2 tonne category for a long time. In 2010, Mahindra had launched the Maxximo to take on the Ace. However, it did not manage to dethrone the leader. However, after the introduction of the Jeeto, the company has seen its market share rise to 23% in the segment. The company has also launched the Supro in the category in an attempt to increase its market share.

To take on Mahindra, Tata Motors has introduced vehicles like the Super Ace Mint and Ace-Mega. It has also launched an initiative called Neev which focusses on rural markets and plans to introduce dedicated small commercial vehicle outlets to cater to the segment. Coming to pick-up trucks, the company plans to replace the 207 with a new vehicle with which, it plans to take on the Bolero pick-up trucks. A new version of the Xenon will take on the Genio facelift.

This is what is required by any organisation to counter competition and increase market share, Mahindra has grown year on year while Tata motors is losing market share on all fronts.
Signing up a brand ambassador who cannot even relate to the industry will not do any good to stem the losses, instead use the same money to strengthen the design and product team.

Mahindra growth is only in LCV. They are not doing well in M&HCV. Even in ICV segment nothing much to speak.

Mahindra deserves that 50% in the SCV segment. They have been launching pretty good products while Tata is still not on its feet. Mahindra has been growing in mostly all the segments while Tata have been launching good products, they have not marketed right, even though they got a pretty good brand ambassador. Waiting to see how Tata will get back their position(if it happens).

Very wrong information. Please see this image. Mahindra is growing at an outstanding pace in the M&HCV segment too.

I said they are not doing well in M&HCV and what is that wrong here.
If you say selling 500 trucks is outstanding that too after 10 years of forming JV and more than 5 years into business, I really dont have anything to say about that.

Mahindra Celebrating 15000 sales milestone nearly after 5 years and Bharat Benz celebrating 20000 sales milestone in less than 2.5 years, and you still wanted to say "Mahindra is growing at an outstanding pace in the M&HCV segment too"

Nothing wrong in the information, infact it's true. Mahindra's growth is mainly on LCV's and nothing to say much about it's M&HCV's. Please see our very own sales thread for FY16 Q1 & Q2 comparison.

Re: Mahindra overtakes Tata - Now the leader in small trucks

Also in LCV rather SCV segment, Mahindra is riding only with the sales increase of its Pickups. That too only Bolero range of pickups. Genio, based on Xylo is not doing well, primarily because all are competing with each other. The Maxximo which was competing with Ace was only declining in sales unlike Ace and Magic which are true market leaders. Its to be noted that Mahindra always follows the path of Tata in SCV and dont actually bring new segments.
