So much for practicality, the project is now shelved.

Unfortunately, the clever idea has ended in utter failure. The city of Qinhuangdao has now started dismantling of the straddling bus’ 1,000 feet (300 meter) test track.
Quote:
The vehicle’s design didn’t work in the real word. For example, there was just 6 feet 11 inches (2.1 meters) of clearance underneath, despite the country’s regulations allowing traffic to be as tall as 13 feet 9 inches (4.2 meters).

Chinese state media was rather dubious about the straddling bus and alleged the project was a scam by the builder. Plus, city officials in Qinhuangdao reportedly didn’t know that the vehicle was testing there until the evaluations actually began.

Arrests over China 'straddling bus' project
Quote:
Police in Beijing have arrested 32 people for illegal fundraising linked to a scrapped project to create a "straddling bus" to beat traffic jams.

The futuristic idea to lift commuters above congestion quickly attracted international attention when it was launched last year - but was finally scrapped last month.

There had been growing speculation that it was no more than an investment scam.

China's elevated bus - Solution for traffic congestion!

Such a concept should work well over existing railway tracks. The height of railway units are consistent. So no need land acquisition. On rail each on either side of the pair of tracks. This won't be able to do high speeds say by looks of it about 40 kmph , so good as slow local.

This elevated bus of sorts will be a literal 'killer' on our roads, especially, in the urban environment where four wheeler's don't follow lane discipline and two wheeler's are a suicidal lot cutting and weaving through traffic! A lot of them would get trampled by this bus!

Is there an assumption here that the "track" used by the bus will not be physically separated (with some kind of barrier) ?

But the intersections will be a challenge
