Tata Motors develops 1026 BHP Prima Race Truck

Tata Motors has developed a 1026 BHP race truck, which will be showcased at the Season 4 of the T1 Prima truck racing series that is scheduled for this weekend at the Buddh International Circuit. This new race truck is being claimed to be the most powerful truck built in India.

The 1026 BHP T1 Prima race truck is equipped with a 12-litre engine that has been plonked in the center of the chassis. This engine placement has deliberately been done to offer equal weight distribution over the front and rear axles. This power plant has been jointly developed by Tata Motors and Cummins Inc. Transmission duties are handled by a new ZF 16-speed gearbox with hydraulic-assisted gear shifting.

Specific output figures of the new 12-litre ISGe Cummins diesel engine are 1,026 BHP @ 2,600 rpm and 3,500 Nm of torque @ 1,600 - 2,200 rpm. Tata claims that the new truck can accelerate from 0-160 km/h in under 10 seconds. Braking setup includes disc brakes on all wheels. The brakes are maintained at optimal temperatures through sensor-based nozzle jets that are fed with air pressurized water. Primary brake disc cooling is done through continuous water flow, while secondary cooling is taken care of by jet stream of water. This cooling system is attached to 3 aluminium tanks which can cumulatively store 180-litres of water.

The truck is shod with race-spec slick type smooth tread tyres. It gets day cab-type cabin with a roll cage and inclined-type racing seat. The steering wheel is of detachable type and has a 20-degree castor angle that is claimed to offer better steer-ability and self-centring at corners.

The truck is also equipped with advanced features like app-based remotely-controlled diagnosis, display unit with touch screen, rearview camera and GPS.

Wow! Sounds fantastic.
Would be interesting to know how this new truck matches against the trucks used in other truck racing series around the world.

re: Tata Motors develops 1026 BHP Prima Race Truck

Its a milestone for our homegrown Tata Motors. Let us hope it scales newer heights after its rise since 1999 in the automobile sector and the subsequent fall from grace after 2005, every successive year. Its resurrection has however begun now with the new Tiago that has been well taken by the car buyers.

Such products show the muscles of the automobile major and portrays what it is capable of creating ! A product or two in the portfolio of this kind is always wanted for showcasing an automobile company's prowess.

Holy moly, this is a Super Truck. A Ferrari 360 takes 9.8 seconds to hit 160 km/h. Imagine this truck on the expressway, out accelerating all luxury sedans in a straight line drag. Would be a priceless moment.

If & when this truck enters the series, it'll definitely make things more interesting. The one that Stratos drove in 2015 had merely 370 BHP on tap.

This is what I came across on that thread:
The Prima race truck's fuel economy is 1.6 kmpl.

12L with 1026bhp is going to burn a lot more than just holes in the pockets
