Ashok Leyland launches Captain Haulage, 3718 Plus trucks

The Captain Haulage range includes 25 tonne, 31 tonne and 37 tonne gross vehicle weight (GVW) versions. The range is offered with both AC and non-AC cabs that have been designed with integrated frontal crash protection. These trucks are powered by the H series CRS engine with iEGR technology. Ashok Leyland claims that the engine delivers higher initial pickup and better driveability and fuel economy. The Captain Haulage range is built for various applications including market load, parcel, tankers, cement bulkers and containers.

Ashok Leyland's 3718 Plus is the newest addition to the 37 tonne GVW segment. It is claimed to offer 10% fuel savings and has an additional payload capacity of 225 kg. The truck uses newly developed tyres that last 10% longer than standard rubber. The 3718 Plus is available in 27.5 ft and 29.5 ft loading span options with lift axles.

Captain Haulage and the new 3718 Plus are equipped with unitized wheel bearings. These have grease-filled wheel hubs that are sealed and don't require periodic maintenance. It also helps improve tyre life. At present, unitized wheel bearings are available as an option on the 37 tonne and 31 tonne range.

Ashok Leyland iEGR system is interesting as it gets around the need for using diesel exhaust fluid or AdBlue.

It is about time Air Conditioning and Heating are standard equipment across the range.
