December 2017: Domestic CV sales soar

India's CV sector saw significant growth in Dec'17 compared to a terrible Dec'16. All CV majors apart from M&M registered double digit growth. Looks like a turn around in the sector is happening, perhaps amplified by the dull sales in 2016. Good signs nonetheless.

Dec'17 YoY Domestic CVsales growth

TATA: 40,447 +61.8%
AL: 19,253 +79.41%
VECV: 6,087 +49.5%

re: December 2017: Domestic CV sales soar

I believe this is not because of major shifts in economy or expectation of extremely high economic growth.

Although economy seems to be gaining traction and higher economic growth is expected, recent Gujarat election results are a fairly strong indication of relative difficulties in agriculture economy.

The spike in sales could largely be due to the change in regulation starting Jan-2018. All truck cabins starting Jan-2018 have to be AC-ed (or with blowers). This is a major change in regulation, which will potentially increase the cost of owning trucks.
