Voyages Overland introduces 'Overlanding Trucks' in India

As received in the press release. Not sure where participants will sleep though - hotel? A different truck? Tents?

Also, the company bragged about these trucks being 'offroad-ready', but I don't think they have AWD.

Voyages Overland shows a whole new way to experience India, onboard our Trucks, starting with trails to the Hills Up North beginning May 2018

Overlanding is a type of Adventure Tourism, a form of long-distance travel by land that covers offbeat locations, with camping as the principle form of accommodation and most importantly, where the journey is the primary goal.

Overland journeys with groups of like-minded fellow travellers, can often last for months and across countries. Overlanding, therefore, enables you to visit and camp at spots completely inaccessible to travellers who use conventional transport or travel formats. At the core of an Overland journey with Voyages Overland is a fleet of safe and sturdy trucks. Voyages Overland’s accommodation during the trips is a judicious mix of camp nights, homestays, and offbeat experiential properties.

Voyages Overland presently covers three different circuits in India, namely – Rajasthan, The Himalayas and Central India.

What is the point of this?
Is this a common trend in Western countries?
I find that where trucks can go, most small wheelbase buses can also go.
Maybe foreigner's will prefer this due to some uniqueness.

Re: Voyages Overland introduces 'Overlanding Trucks' in India

From reading the site I get the impression that we would merely be passengers.

I am not sure about others, but for me personally, the excitement of overloading or off-roading is being the driver, not a passenger.

So, unless I am the one driving the truck, it does not appeal to me.

Cheers

Agreed, but for India, this is probably better. It requires an entirely different skill set to drive a huge commercial vehicle, while these guys are aiming at regular holiday goers looking for some adventure.
