Zoom has started rentals of caravan-like vehicles. Bookings open on Mar 31 7pm onwards.

When I logged to the zoomcar page just now, I was still unable to see the availability or the tarrif yet. So perhaps we need to wait just a little more.

The video shows the caravan to be almost bus like and while it is a great initiative some thoughts come to my mind:
1. Seeing the size of the vehicle, does it need a commercial vehicle licence? I assume not, as the target audience is typical car drivers like most of us.
2. I wonder if it would be better to have force Traveller based caravans rather than the ones shown in the video .
3. They seem a little crudely finished. I would have liked a little better finished product. However, one can't make out a lot from just the video.

Kudos to zoomcar to get into this segment as it is untested and a risky model in India. There are no great parking spots too like in other countries (I only have experienced the US of A in this aspect). Still, would love to try out this sometime in the near future. Great experience with family/friends is what I would assume.

I hope its an April Fool's joke! That is a commercial bus and not an RV! Driving that thing needs a special skill set.

OT: If Greg is reading this, a winger modified like a VW bus (something like what DC did) would be a welcome move

Wow. That looks great. No more 2 or more cars for a big family on vacation or rear seats to be converted to makeshift beds. As seen from the video, comes with a couch, mini refrigerator. Hope the pricing is right for it to click with the holiday road tripping crowd. Parking and mobility could be the issues it has to deal with, i guess.

I don't think anyone of us can just book it online and drive it, will it not need a commercial driving licence or a truck/bus driving licence? I am sure we can't just drive this with our LMV licence

Very True!! I am sure we need to re apply for additional category license for this type of vehicle. Plus hope this doesn't turn out to be an April fool Prank. No news about it in the print media till now.

Thinking out loud, could be they are just testing the depth of water? If they get good response they can think of launching this service, if not they can always call it a April Fool's prank.

Practically, I don't see these kind of Caravans running on Indian roads. We do not have civic sense to drive cars/two wheeler. How on earth would we drive theses without killing any one?

If not then it better be. I dont think that vehicle falls in LMV category which can be driven with a regular 4 wheeler DL.

A few colleagues were discussing the possibility of applying for HMV licence in order to expand their job prospects in case of a shock closure of their course (story for another day). May be its time for me to join them

I too think that we aren't yet ready for caravans, less so for ones on hire. Let's wait and see.
