EVs won't require permits for commercial use

The Minister of Road Transport & Highways has announced that electric vehicles (EV) and alternate fuel vehicles used for commercial applications will no longer require a permit. This includes commercial vehicles powered by CNG.

Permits for buses, goods carriers, cabs and India tourist permits are issued by state governments. Securing these is a tedious and expensive process. It is believed that with EVs and alternate fuel vehicles exempt from permits, it will promote the use of such vehicles, especially among fleet operators.

With more and more EVs and low-emission vehicles being used for commercial applications including public transport, pollution levels could also be brought under control.

That's a great beginning, relaxing toll and road tax should make the deal even more sweeter.
I hope this pushes 2 stroke auto drivers to shift to electric ones. State governments must subsidize such purchases or incentivise urban can aggregators who can push changes.

Re: EVs won't require permits for commercial use

This is very confusing. Financial incentives is one thing and waiving permit is another.

Financial incentives of all kinds for EVs are much needed and are most welcome.

Coming to permits, if waiver is possible, why not scrap the permit system altogether? The law should either require permit or it shouldn't. In whatever are the principles that lead towards need of a permit, how does vehicle type matter?

All of these will only be temporary incentives to get more EVs on the road. Once volumes are achieved, all the incentives will be rolled back (like in the USA).

I feel it's a good move as electric vehicles will find easier adoption in the commercial & government sectors than with private users.
