Mahindra showcased its latest eletric, lithium ion battery powered three wheelers - Treo and Treo Yaari at MOVE 2018, the Global Mobility Summit organised by NITI Aayog.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Pawan Goenka, Managing Director, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. said, “As India aspires to go all-electric, the time is right for us to develop sustainable solutions for urban mass mobility. As the pioneers of electric mobility in India, Mahindra has been working toward making the EV segment adoptable for masses and to facilitate mass transportation. Today, we are delighted to accelerate this large-scale adoption of EVs with the unveiling of the Treo, a vehicle we expect to become the default choice for the last mile commute in urban India”.

According to Mahesh Babu, CEO, Mahindra Electric, “The Treo which aspires to be the next generation of mobility, brings the advantages of electric vehicles and connectivity features to the masses. With the longest range in their respective segments, Treo and Treo Yaari are going to be a great fit for urban India’s last mile mobility needs. The three-wheeler segment, with its sheer size, has the potential to make a significant contribution to India’s all-electric mobility vision. The vehicles also give owners and drivers an opportunity to improve their earning potential by 20-25%, a very significant margin for them”.

On another note, is there some unwritten law mandating a three wheeler to have only this design?

"Low operating costs of Rs 0.5 per km" This line is giving me crazy ideas. Buy one, spend some amount to protect against rain and then use it to run small errands within the city

Mahindra launched Treo electric autos today.

• Treo is a 3 seater with bigger battery, higher range, speed is priced Rs 2.22 lakhs.

• Treo Yaari comes under e-rickshaw category with speed limit of 25 kmph. It can seat 4 people, has small battery with lower range and priced at Rs 1.36 lakhs.

Mother of all blunders been laughing at this post for like five minutes. Let's respect them for being frank about their product

On a serious note, I am happy that Mahindra is keeping the momentum going even with tough competition! Jawa being the best move after XUV 5oo. Hope they get ahead in the electric race and get the share they deserve in the commercial automobile space.

Mahindra Treo, Treo Yaari e-rickshaws launched at Rs. 1.36 lakh

Mahindra has launched the Treo and Treo Yaari electric 3-wheelers at a starting price of Rs. 1.36 lakh (ex-showroom, Bangalore). This price includes the FAME subsidy. In the first phase, the e-rickshaws will be available at select dealerships in Bangalore and Hyderabad.



The Treo range of electric 3-wheelers were showcased at the MOVE 2018 Global Mobility Summit earlier this year. The electric vehicles (EVs) will be available in two variants - D+3 and D+4. They are built around a space frame chassis and feature a hard-top and composite body panels. These e-rickshaws come equipped with connected features like remote monitoring of charge status, battery condition and location.

The Treo is powered by an IP-67 rated lithium-ion battery offering a claimed range of 170 km on a single charge. Mahindra claims that the vehicle has an operating cost of Rs. 0.50 per km.

Mahindra has also inaugurated its first Electric Technology Manufacturing Hub under its +ME brand in Bangalore. The company has invested Rs. 100 crore in the facility, which will manufacture battery packs, power electronics and motor assemblies. The new plant will increase Mahindra Electric's annual production capacity to 25,000 units and will employ around 200 people.

Spotted in B'lore. There were about 10 of these in a convey. Both hard top and soft top versions and they topped out at about 40kmph. They didn't look any more wider than the regular autos but the legroom was limo like.

Mumbai: Mahindra Electric Mobility on Thursday said its electric three-wheeler range Treo has crossed the 5,000 units sales mark in the country and claimed it has become India's first lithium-ion-operated three-wheeler to achieve the feat. The Treo range is powered by advanced lithium-ion battery technology with a life of over 1.50 lakh kilometres.

"The Mahindra Treo range has crossed a remarkable sales milestone of 5,000 units and is currently being sold in over 400 districts across the country," said Mahindra Electric Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mahesh Babu.

He added that cumulatively, the Treo has travelled a distance of over 35 million km on Indian roads, saving 1,925 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide tailpipe emissions.

Given its low running costs, a Treo customer has been able to save up to Rs 45,000 per year, he added.

The electric three-wheeler range comes with a standard warranty of three years or 80,000 km, along with the option of an extended warranty of two years or 1 lakh km, the company said in the release.
