Next in line :
1. Delhi-Ajmer - 1st week of April 2023
2.Secundrabad-Tirupati - 8th April 2023
3. Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri - 14th April 2023
Inauguration of the Chennai-Coimbatore Vande Bharat is included in the Hon'ble Prime Minister's Visit to Chennai, scheduled on April 8th. So unlikely that they'll cancel that. The rake that was turned out for SR has been sent to Bhopal for testing. So SR might get a new rake instead.

Re: Vande Bharat Express (Train 18) - Made-In-India Engineless Train

Travelled in inaugural commercial run from Tirupati to Secunderabad on 9/4/23. Following are the brief observations

1) Booked in current reservation on 9/4/23 at 11.30 am after chart prepration. The train was fully booked and not even a single empty seat

2) The CS of AP govt also travelled and gave a sound byte to tv channels. the press guys were not leaving even till 3.14 pm and GRP had to come and clear all.
3) Started on time but halted at tiruchanur station for a minute or two for clearance. Later saw that MAQ-SRC was ahead as it halted at RU while VB crossed without stopping.
4) Picked up good speed and was doing MPS all throughout. Saw Kavali station being skipped at 130 and was a different experience
5) Snacks were 2 masal wada, 2 salted cashew packets, 1 bhujia packet, 1 chikki, 1 fruit drink and tea. It also had a wet wipe and small puch of sanitiser.
6) Was 5 mins early at NLR and on time at OGL and GNT.
7) Dinner was loaded at GNT and served later. Veg had 2 chapati, dry bhendi-aloo curry, bhendi masala gravy curry, dal, rice, curd, rasagulla and scoops butterscotch icecream. Dinner seemed like overdose of Bhendi.
8) Was 10 mins late at Nalgonda and 15 mins early at SC.
9) City buses to certain major destinations were available at that time from SC rly stn

  • Fares to Kochi are approx Rs. 200 more, to Kozhikode are approx 400 more than Jan Shatabdi. (AC Chair car comparison)

Re: Vande Bharat Express (Train 18) - Made-In-India Engineless Train

Colour is fine and subjective but somehow I liked the old pattern which gave it a sense of flow and movement (you can imagine it piercing through the air, even when it is stationary).
New one is very average even from applying simple graphic design principles.
Ex: Bottom white has no details and almost looks like a slab while the top part (orange) is busy with sharp/pointed elements coming and touching the separator line. They could have played around with integrating the lights as part of the graphics. Very average graphic design IMHO.

Re: Vande Bharat Express (Train 18) - Made-In-India Engineless Train

Slowly the bubble is bursting up. All VBs with below 50% OR would get a 25% price cut on base fare.
So I take it this way, if you have a successful VB running from your city, you pay a penalty of 25%.

Wonder why can't they study and flag these VBs instead of election gimmick ?

VBs in MP/Central India are lucky to get a cut.

Re: Vande Bharat Express (Train 18) - Made-In-India Engineless Train

I travelled by Vande Bharath from Chennai to Coimbatore, in CC. Here are some points that I noted.
  • The connections between coaches were great, like metro trains.
  • The seats were decent. The Width of the seats were ok for me, in CC. But people with heavier build will have issues when the seats are fully occupied. Also it was neither too soft nor too firm.
  • Fit and finish of the side panels, near the windows, were not good. Did not take pictures to highlight the same. The Alstom produced metro coaches are well ahead in terms of fit and finish, with regards to panels. Since the train was manufactured in April, it was very good in other areas.
  • Reading lights were touch based, A small touch in the center can either switch the light on or off. I saw some of the lights were already not working.
  • As per my understanding these are LHB coaches with EMU / MEMU type of drivetrain (EMU / MEMU hardware placed beside the wheels) Please correct me if I am wrong. The train was limited to 130 kmph. It mostly was travelling at 129 kmph, probably with the aid of cruise control. The ride, comfort level and NVH levels were good.
  • There was a slight judder when it was just about to come to standstill (not when they start to brake / decelerate) and likewise when it starts to accelerate (only for a few seconds). It could be one – off / coach based.

How SAFE are these new trains?

A fire broke out in the battery box of a coach of the Vande Bharat train heading from Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal to New Delhi on Monday morning.

With the Saffron livery introduced, I am guessing we might see another one in green color. In addition, the white livery has the blue striping to reflect the color of the chakra in the flag and this stays true to the name of Vande Bharat train.

The green color might also mean a different configuration for a lower cost similar to how the garib raths were setup

The Railways has decided to remove the Saffron colour from Vande Bharat Express. It seems that livery would be exclusive to the proposed non-AC train set (the Media refers to it as "Vande Sadharan"). The sole Vande Bharat painted in the Orange-Grey livery is shortly being taken back to ICF for repainting (reportedly)
