As per this report, Train 18 is to be flagged off on Delhi-Varanasi route on 29th December. Whatever be the reason (mostly political), it defies logic because this stretch has dense fog during this time. So either the train will run on alternate days, 3 days a week from Delhi and 3 days from Varanasi with a rest day or it'll also be perennially late due to fog.

So the train has been damaged as well by vandal. Sometimes it feels that we do not deserve such technology itself since all we can do is damage it. Same happened with other trains as well in the past.

Be it anything, vandals will play their cards like this. No good things are left unscathed by these beepsters (can’t use the actual word for obvious reasons here).

They’re either being played by political parties who can’t stand the sight of the achievements done by the prevailing govt or it’s the mindset of these third class rogues who want to enjoy the sight of damaging anything that catches their attention. Tejas express suffered a similar fate earlier this year when it was introduced.

I’m sure this will continue when bullet train is introduced. First consignment of materials have been received for training purpose at IR!

Heard that there is a possibility of Train 18 starting commercial run from next week, between Delhi and Varanasi - ahead of the Kumbh Mela (14-Jan)

I think today was the first one with media also shooting inside the train. Entire platform was cordoned off.

Surprisingly this thread has slowed down. The train has been named Vande Bharat Express and today was it's inaugural run.

It's been given a decent timing for its run. Today it has run from New-Delhi to Varanasi. From 17th February, it's going to start it's run as per schedule.

Its good to see that the train has got full booking on a few days. I hope that it'll catch up soon. clap:

Had got this link fwded to me on multiple WA groups. I feel this is one of the most close to non marketing view on the train set.

Day after launch by PM Modi, Train 18 breaks down 200 km outside Delhi. See:

https://indianexpress.com/article/in...ilure-5586740/

I feel a few *weeks/months* of testing is very inadequate. Such an *evolutionary* product devp needs about a year of testing, I'd think. Had it been *revolutionary*, then it'd need 2-3 or more years of testing depending on the extent of *revolution*.

Let's hope the teething troubles are resolved.

The breakdown was due to jamming of the brakes due to CRO. Cattle run-over. Train will be ready for the commercial run

Being built in Chennai, I hope they tested it many times here. Or not ? Its a good achievement and hope they iron out issues. Its not that critical requirement to have it running commercially so early without testing. Field testing is always different and needed.

CRO happens quite often in India. If the train is going to be incapacitated in every CRO incident, then I'd say it's a design flaw and needs to be fixed, even if it means going back to the drawing board for a year!

"JINXED" Vande Bharat Express hits motorcycle, cattle in one journey.

The newly launched Train 18, named Vande Bharat Express, was damaged again Wednesday when two cows strayed on track and got hit by the superfast train running at a speed of around 130 kilometres per hour.

Seems the Vandals in Tundla had a go. Smashed a window pane. Fortunately the glass (laminated) did not give way. It is the same area where the Swarn Shatabdi was vandalized. So we have some who do not want progress?!

Unfortunate but true.

Vandalism has nothing do with the desire for progress. It's a mental disorder.

Vandalism thrives on hatred, jealousy and idle time.

The flaw is not with the design of the train. The issue is with securing the tracks by enclosing it so there is no unwanted things or creatures getting on to it.
IR is doing this already in certain sections by building granite walls on either sides so the speeds can be increased.

As for testing, it had done quite a bit of it ever since it was rolled out from Perambur and it is just the body and interiors that is mostly new. The technology used is similar to the existing MEMU with upgraded systems and hardware.
