I don't think this deserves such mocking. For IR it is indeed a very huge leap in coach manufacturing.

The electricals are supplied by Medha Servo Drives, a Hyderabad based company. Attaching some screenshots from a document i have. For some reason I am unable to upload it in the post.

Is it me, or does the interior have a striking resemblance to N700 Shinkanse. The way entrance to the passenger area, placement of toilet, the curve around the entrance.
Can any one concur or is it that a train can be designed in just this similar way!

Train 18 has managed to touch 160kmph on Kota-Sawaimadhopur section yesterday. Hopefully it'll be put to public use by mid December.

Is there like a cruise control or some "upper speed" setting, to ensure that it doesn't exceed that speed (say if a down slope occurs)? Or does the loco pilot have to keep monitoring the speedometer and *manually* ease the throttle if it starts to exceed the desired speed?

That can be distracting, since his core job is to keep an eye on the signals.

This technology was already present in 3 Phase locos(WAP5, WAP7 and WAG9) AFAIK since these locos already have advanced power electronics to control the locomotive. This was not exactly a cruise control system like a car but it was like a speed hold feature. I guess a similar if not advanced system will be available in Train 18.

Train 18 has finally hit 180kmph speeds yesterday on Kota-Sawaimadhopur section of Delhi-Mumbai corridor.

Quote:
Sudhanshu Mani, GM of ICF said, “Train 18 has clocked 180 kmph speed during the trials today. While many trials are still left, this is a milestone for Train 18.” “The data is yet to be analysed, but I can confirm that Train 18 achieved the 180 kmph speed today,”

Yup it exists in the 3 phase locos and the WDP4, WDG4 locos. The speed hold function can be set at any speed greater than 60kmph and the system will compensate by additional acceleration and braking in the gradients and declines.

As far as I know it doesn't exist on WDP-4 and WDG-4. It exists in three phase electric locos and 3 phase EMUs and can be activated at speeds as low as 10 kmph.

Back to train 18, here is a video of it doing 180 kmph: https://twitter.com/PiyushGoyal/stat...560910849?s=20

re: Vande Bharat Express (Train 18) - Made-In-India Engineless Train

Found this Youtube video (officially from ICF) - that summarizes features of the train-set nicely.

Heartening to know (as posted before), trials runs are going on well and the 180 kmph mark has been attained as well.

My guess is - at some point in time, this train set will be adapted for deployment on BOM-AMD High speed corridor. More of 'passenger train' kind of service. The fast acceleration and longer distances between stations make it ideal. Taking out one of the middle sections will allow for better yields. Hurdle - Different gauges. However, while the bullet train corridor is standard gauge, but adapting from BG to SG is not complicated.

2022 will be an interesting year for India, to name a few...
1. 75 years of Indian Independence
2. BOM-AMD HSR inauguration
3. Navi Mumbai Airport Operations
4. G20 Summit in India
5. ISRO manned mission to LEO.

Well, i got this info from a WDP4 Loco Pilot. Maybe the newer versions come equipped with this perhaps? I do not know.

Looks like a typo in the number of coaches listed. Should it be 16 coaches?

Yes, Train 18 has 16 coaches.

I am leaving the original post as is because The Hindu article carries the same error from which this post quotes. However that 116 coaches is obviously an error.

The best part of this speed run was the look inside the locopilot cab. They looked really tensed at 180 kmph speed. You could make that out from the way they were looking stiff, with one guy even craning his neck a couple of times to see the farthest that he can. And the pilot was incessantly honking, probably terrified of someone jumping into the track out of nowhere!

I also felt that the noise inside the coaches this time around at 180 kmph was very high. Compared to this when they earlier tested T18 at 130 kmph speed it was absolutely noiseless and rock-steady.
