Re: Bajaj Qute quadricycle priced from Rs. 2.63 lakh

Is it just me or this is not that great looking. In comparison Nano had better looks.

Moreover pricing it same as Maruti 800 is not going to light sales charts on fire. Instead if its Auto alternative then price it in that segment.

Re: Bajaj Qute quadricycle priced from Rs. 2.63 lakh

I just realized one more thing about the Qute and why it was classified as a Quadricycle.
BS VI norms are applicable to 3 wheelers and small commercial vehicles.
However, BS IV norms apply to Quadricycles!
It is clear that BS VI engines on Bajaj rickshaws will make them more expensive.
Which may in-turn prove to be a blessing for the Qute.

Uber partners with Bajaj to launch quadricycle Qute in Bengaluru

Cab aggregator, Uber, have announced a partnership with Bajaj Auto to launch Bajaj Qute on UberXS for quick, affordable and smart urban commuting.

Uber’s riders will be able to see UberXS on the app from June 13 and it will be available in Indiranagar, Kormanagala, HSR Layout and parts of the outer ring road to begin with.

Re: Bajaj Qute quadricycle priced from Rs. 2.63 lakh

No surprises, but the Qute sounds and goes like an autorickshaw, albeit with little better stability. Saw one go by today. The sound was some what like that of a Nano, though a tad louder. Small foot-print makes it as navigable as the pesky autos.

The nightmare will start soon! This is what Rajiv Bajaj fought for. They are slow, unsafe, crammed, absolutely horrendous and pesky little retards on the road. But, this is Bajaj's license era hangover wanting to produce trash:

Going by the MH03 plates this is definitely from Bombay. I have a few queries ::

1. Does this contraption fall in the Rickshaw category or Kaali Peeli category ? I see that the person driver/owner is marketing this as a rickshaw but what is the governments line on this ? as both the rick and kaali Peelis have different fare rates.

2. Will these contraptions be allowed to ply beyond Bandra/Sion into the island city where the rickshaws are banned ?

Regards

Re: Bajaj Qute quadricycle priced from Rs. 2.63 lakh

The regular autorickshaw serves as last mile connectivity in many Chennai suburbs, in a 2 km radius around railway stations. It carries five passengers - three at the rear, and two on either side of the driver. It is possible because of the "open on all sides" design. The fare is Rs 10.00 per head, and Rs 20.00 during evening peak hours. Though the seating is cramped, it is not claustrophobic because of the open design. People don't mind because of the very short ride they are going to take. The Qute can't take five passengers like the auto.

The Tata Magic on the other hand runs as "point to point service" between localities in Chennai, and carries twelve passengers. Hop on - hop off anywhere fare is Rs 10.00, while point to point may cost double that. They even run with designated route boards. The Qute can't compete here too, because of lesser passenger load and less torque of the engine compared to the diesel Magic.

Where it can compete is with the regular autorickshaws, and may be as partner with Uber/Ola as a new category. If this is possible, I wonder why Tata/Mahindra have not partnered with them already.

Regular autorickshaw drivers may not want to upgrade to the Qute, it will not be as simple and inexpensive to own/operate. If anyone wants it as a personal vehicle, I will be really surprised! May be the rare people who buy personal autos may consider this.

Re: Bajaj Qute quadricycle priced from Rs. 2.63 lakh

Now, hire quadricycle as RTO grants them autorickshaw permit.

The suburban regional transport offices (RTOs) have given approval to a few quadricycles to be registered as autorickshaws.

The story behind this Qute & its owner is covered by the Mumbai Mirror - link to news article. Interesting how he mentions that passengers were first apprehensive of its shape / higher fares, which is why he clearly mentioned "auto rickshaw" at the front & back.

Re: Bajaj Qute quadricycle priced from Rs. 2.63 lakh

Spotted a Qute (taxi, for want of a better word) with yellow plates and dropping passengers at Madiwala. Not sure if they are app based on run on meter, but the belted up driver is an encouraging sight in itself

Im seeing a number of these here and there.
Cute little things.
But noisy.

At this rate Mahindra and Tata can also get onto this game.

Re: Bajaj Qute quadricycle priced from Rs. 2.63 lakh

Saw this Qute waiting for registration outside the Andheri West RTO. Seems like we are going to see more of these now - in addition to the already crowded auto population. Wonder how they are going to manage the fare structure. Will it be something in auto and cab?
