According to the company, the Cruzio is Mahindra’s first Lastwagen Pullman Overhang (LPO) bus. It meets the Rollover Test norms as per AIS 031, Bus Body code as per AIS 052 and complies with regulatory requirements of AIS 153.

Mahindra claims that the Cruzio comes equipped with contoured seats with full back support that are the widest in class and a broad gangway.

Mahindra also claims that the Cruzio offers better visibility and has bigger brakes, parabolic suspension and the highest ground clearance in its segment.

The Cruzio is powered by an MDI Tech engine with Mahindra’s FuelSmart technology that has modes which are claimed to optimize fuel consumption and engine power depending on the load and road conditions. It also gets an Intelligent Driver Information System (DIS).

Mahindra will manufacture the Cruzio at its Zaheerabad facility in the state of Telangana.

This is what Mahindra's current bus offerings look like:

The LPO means the bus has overhangs to increase bus size, while keeping the wheelbase same. The Cruzio has the driver and the door ahead of the front axle.

I'm not sure on the origin of the exact "Lastwagen Pullman Overhang" term but it might mean Long Platform Overhang as well and over the years became a part of the nomenclature in the industry. Pullman could have been from the time they used to be the exclusive body builders for coaches.

Thanks for sharing, heartwarming to know that commercial vehicles are also moving up the ladder in safety norms. I don't see many Mahindra buses on roads yet.

Even today high volumes of buses are plying Indian roads in cities and hinterlands which were never designed in keeping safety norms in mind. Buses rolling over have caused massive loss of lives, specially in hilly terrains. Mahindra specifically mentioned that this bus has been rollover tested.

I could find below info in Quora.

The abbreviations "LP and LPO" takes back us to 1959. TATA's were, manufacturing the Mercedes Benz trucks. The class of such Trucks carried the name "Lastwagon Pull man" . Lastwagon pull man was the ancestor of BENZ class trucks

The term "Pullman" was borrowed from American streamlined passenger trains designed by George Mortimer Pullman known as Pullman trains. The 3 digits followed the letter LP denote the engine type. This model designation was used by Mercedes from 1954 to 1963. But the TATA’s followed the German nomenclature. The Germans called the Full Forward Control trucks as Long Platform (L.P.) Chassis. After 1963, Mercedes use the more familiar LPxxxx where the first 2 digits represent the weight and the last 2 digits denotes the horsepower.

LPO means "Long Platform Overhang". It is the variant of LP Chassis.

The Mercedes-Benz LP (since. Lastwagen Pullman) is a forward-control truck. Many manufacturers adopted Aerodynamic designs which made way for front overhang. The overhang provides for a long loading span without increasing the number of axles and tonnage. Overhangs are the lengths of a car which extend beyond the wheelbase at the front and rear. They are normally described as front overhang and rear overhang.

"Lastwagen" in german means transport vehicle/goods carrier. The pullman tag is a heritage from TATA making licenced Mercedes trucks. They are usually the "forward control Long Platform Overhang" in mercedes lingo. HCV experts will be in a better position to give more details.

Caught this bus testing this morning in Mundhwa, Pune while going to office. I had seen it yesterday also at the same place.
The grille design revealed it's Mahindra origin. And the two circular lamps above windshield confirm that it's Cruzio.

Is the Mirror in front of Front Windscreen towards left corner (horizontal one) for helping the driver to see the persons, animals (any object) ahead of vehicle but out of driver's vision?

Actually I wanted to ask the purpose of this mirror when I read the first post of this thread in July.

But now I myself figured out (hope correctly).

Is this due to some amendment in MV Act?
