Under the Monster Volvo B7R Hood (Engine Compartment Pics)

Hi Guys,

Had a chance to peep into the hood of Volvo B7R Bus. What a monster engine it houses, a big radiator fan like a train, 2 cylinder AC compressor, turbocharger....

6-cylinder, 6.7 LITERS, 4-stroke OHC Turbocharged Intercooled DI diesel
Output 285 HP @ 2200 rpm
Torque 1200 Nm at 1120 rpm
6 forward speed, fully synchronized, electric retarded gears

Here are some pics -

It has a good torque punch under hood. The idling speed is 500 rpm and max RPM is 2500 rpm. At around 2200 rpm, it cruises at 100 in the 6th gear effortlessly.

This went somewhat unnoticed on team-bhp:

Volvo buses now come with common rail engines ,Volvo calls it CRD,it is euro 3 compliant and guess what ABS is now standard on B7R's.

tech specs now read,
6-cylinder,7-litre diesel
213 kW (290 hp) @ 2100 rpm
1200 nm @ 1050 - 1650 rpm
Disc brakes with EBS 5

Quote:
The euro 3 B7R comes with ABS as standard, a leaning facility that can raise the buses by 5 cms and a fuel tank with a 600 litre capacity.
Did not understand the part in bold

That tacho looks a lot like the Safari DiCOR's tacho. The DiCOR redlines 500 rpm higher.

My take is that it is a typrographical (brainographical?) blooper by a journalist who doesn't understand contemporary bus technology.
The correct words would be it has a kneeling facility that can lower the buses to 5 cm (the height of a low kerb)
This is to permit a passenger with a wheel-chair to be helped into the bus.

"a leaning facility that can raise the buses by 5 cms "

This is a feature which is common in most of the buses in Europe. This is to help the passengers to get into the bus easily. This feature is ued to lean the bus(which makes the stairs to come closer to the ground) to the side from which passengers get in.

can be done with any vehicle with ECAS. (electronic air susp)

Some off roaders like Cayenne, RR can do the opposite, raise the body by an inch or so for off roading (only under 25 mph or something like that)
