The Tata Ultra Urban 9/9 electric AC buses will be deployed under the OPEX model and the company will be setting up the required infrastructure including fast charging and support system.

After having delivered over 200 electric buses with over 60 percent market share under the FAME I scheme, Tata Motors has announced that it has bagged the contract of 300 electric buses by the Ahmedabad Janmarg Ltd (AJL). This supply order for Tata Motors is the largest in the country thus far.The company will supply Urban 9/9 Electric model of buses which will run in Ahmedabad’s BRTS corridor.

According to Girish Wagh, President, Commercial Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, “We are delighted to have won the largest tender of e-buses in the country. Tata Motors has been playing a proactive role in the electrification drive, with the development of electric traction system for Hybrid as well as pure electric vehicles. The Ultra Electric buses are indigenously developed to offer superior design and best-in-class features. We will continue to support the Government in their commitment towards creating a sustainable future for India.”

Tata Motors says the critical electrical traction components have been sourced from internationally known best-in-class suppliers in USA, Germany and China offering proven products. The buses have been tested and validated by Tata Motors across states including Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Assam and Maharashtra to establish performance in diverse terrains.

Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner, Vijay Nehra is very aggressive on electrification of buses. Ashok Leyland electric bus is already doing the trials. It's funny that Tata got the production order!

Interesting. TNSTC is looking to order about 500 e-buses including moffusil routes travelling more than 200 Km one way.Will be interesting to see who bags the order.

Electric transportation is the future and it is necessary to invest in local companies to allow them to grow. I wish Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Kerala and Telangana had done the same thing.

TNSTC had recently released the list of routes to be operated by these 500-odd buses. None of them are long routes. They are mostly city routes, with one side distance not exceeding about 30kms. The total one day schedule stretches to about 200kms.
