Re: All-new Tata Winger showcased at Auto Expo 2020

I wish this were a full-fledged attempt by Tata. This is like a half-hearted upper cut by a lesser batsman; a Sehwag in his prime would go all the way and send the ball into the stands.

I saw the first picture and thought "here's something that I could buy for the family". But by the time the entire product came to be understood, it was all "meh".

Re: All-new Tata Winger showcased at Auto Expo 2020

One of the few, if any, advantage the Winger had over the Traveller was the sliding doors for easy access compared to the fold down front seat.
Now, the new Traveller has a separate access door, while Winger took it away.
What gives?

Cheers

You will also note that the new Winger continues with the same engine.
Having recently tested both vehicles for a personal van, I don't find much of a difference in the way both vehicles accelerate or in their agility.

The front look really nice and futuristic. All that huge metal area on the roof is a canvas for Vinyl sticker artists. The Orange Hanuman, checkered flag, India tricolour, lover's name...I can imagine 'em all

Other than that it's still the old winge. some sales might happen in the rural areas but don't expect this to make it big.

Mr Pratap Bose and his team are doing absolute wonders. We hardly see any brand showcase so many great looking vehicles right one after the another. It's a rare moment in Indian automotive scenario.

Re: All-new Tata Winger showcased at Auto Expo 2020

A new front end does not change the fact that this is basically a Renault Trafic van from the mid-late 1980s, so that makes it an almost 35 year old body shell. It looks very ‘third world’ after the facelift. It’s time that the commercial vehicle segment in India also undergoes modernisation. In my opinion, our commercial vehicles are a real eyesore, as most of them are rebadged versions of models that the developed world had discarded decades ago!

What might really sell:-
1. Slightly shorter vehicle than the Force traveller.
2. Dash and steering from a sedan. (That includes steering mounted audio controls)
3. Multiple a/c vents, with per passenger controls, preferably from an aircraft cabin.
4. 8 or 10 seats in 3 rows. Driver + 1 in front, 3 / 4 in middle 2nd and 3rd rows.
10. Enough luggage space for a week long journey.
11. Side air bags for passengers plus 2 in front.

Re: All-new Tata Winger showcased at Auto Expo 2020

Front of vehicle looks as if MG Hector's DRL joined hands with Honda Amaze's chromed grill, who then decided to bully first generation Maruti 800 by sitting on top of it.

Winger was a failure and I see no reason why this will sell. Latest generation Force Traveller will win this contest hands down.

What makes you say that? It may not be as successful as a Traveller, but it is a success for Tata-especially as a mini school van and ambulances.

I feel TML should not mix their passenger vehicle design language with commercial vehicles. They should distinguish them both.
But this vehicle looks so out of proportion to me.

Re: All-new Tata Winger showcased at Auto Expo 2020

To give it due credit, The redesign adds a much needed facelift to the winger (something that should have been done on launch ) and makes it more appealing. Personally I would make the front end roof rake backwards and rounded.

The platform now lends itself to many more customization possibilities.

I'd like to see this facelift applied to the low roof one!

At a time when many people are asking Tata to design a separate logo for the passenger vehicles to differentiate itself from the commercial vehicle segment, Tata goes and plonks the Passenger car styling onto a commercial vehicle and then goes on to launch both of them side by side at the Expo.

What is wrong with sleek, curvy, good looking CVs?

Aren't taxis commercial vehicles? Are buses with 30 or more seats passenger vehicles? A Sutlej / Azad / ACGL / TVS / Veera body is very different from a Karur body - even on same Chassis.

Every new addition to Uber / Ola fleet here is a WagonR / Eon / Ford Aspire taxi.
More than 60% Innovas are taxis. 70% Etios' are taxis. 80% Indica / Indigo are taxis. A large proportion of the Amaze too end up as taxis. (My observations) And then, there are multi-axle heavy vehicles with Inter-locked circles or a three pointed star in a circle for a logo. The same logos are found in premium sedans and SUVs.

This vehicle caters to a very low volume market, which, in my opinion, lies between a 5/7 seater small van (Omni, Eeco, Innova, XUV500, Bolero, Trax, etc) and 12/14 seater Force Traveller.
