Re: Ashok Leyland launches new LCV - Bada Dost

Similar to what TATA did with the Ace Gold BS6, AL have increased payload without changing the power/torque from the engine, though 190 Nm will still be decent to lug 1.8T payload. Wheelbase has gone up by 80 mm as compared with Dost+. Also like the Intra V30, this one has LNT to control NOx emissions so customers need not refill AdBlue/DEF so no issues of vehicle going to limp mode at least on this front.

Good that they have reduced the front over hang as compared to regular 2.8T GVW Dost model. As per Ashok Leyland, it was an impact absorbing structure, but its customers used to say that it increased the turning circle radius especially in tight urban areas.

Looks good. Why can't they bring the headlights down to avoid blinding drivers coming in the opposite direction.

Re: Ashok Leyland launches new LCV - Bada Dost

This is a wonderful introduction by Leyland!

The name sounds quite silly (just building on the goodwill created by the regular Dost), but the product looks like a great option for the CV space.

There is no smallish CV that performs as well as the Dost on the highway/expressway. While other small & smallish CVs simply struggle when fully loaded or when climbing inclines, the Dost pulls clean like a car & keeps pace with cars (at least until the 80 kmph CV speed limiter cuts in).

I see that the excellent 1.5 litre 3-pot common-rail has been updated for the BS6 norms and now produces 80 PS & 190 Nm. That's the same power and 30 Nm more torque than the Honda Amaze's 1.5 diesel CVT!

It's great of Ashok Leyland to provide power steering as standard and A/C as standard on the LX.

The name will resonate with the buyer segment very well

Yes, its an excellent engine, though Honda's 1.5 L diesel motor actually produces 100 bhp/200 Nm and is de-tuned to 80 bhp/160 Nm only in the CVT variant (just checked the latest brochure). Probably because the CVT can provide much higher torque multiplication at lower speeds. This way Honda can optimize fuel economy. Though this is not the case in CVT variants of Baleno and Yaris.
