Re: Bombardier unveils semi-high speed train design for RRTS

NCRTC is carrying out the dynamic test runs of the RRTS train sets on the 17 km long Priority Section between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot.

Highest speed recorded was 160 kph.

Wonderful isn't it. Really happy to see IR taking the step forward towards class, speed and convenience. Now it's going to be fierce fight between the Vande Bharat and this for the value and utility they provide. Actually, it's a nice to have problem

You'd don't need to get close to this to tell that the finish and paint job is better than our VB train set.

On the other hand, its all a bit puzzling, this Bombardier purchase at a time we are well into building our own trainsets!

Will be good to compare the ride quality of our VB to this, once it hits commercial operations.

It might be the case that you need to take care of bilateral interests from time to time.

IIRC, the Vande Bharat train set is a just a Shatabdi wearing designer clothes. It’s an Octavia vs Audi A4 kind of thing there. This looks like something designed for suburban usage. I’m sure it will be a lot more energy efficient in the expected stop-go usage.

That's completely untrue, my friend.
VBE is a brand new train-set, with re-designed bogies, suspension, engines and other ancillaries.

The biggest difference between Shatabdi and VBE is the fact that VBEs are higher-speed self-propelled EMUs (Electric Multiple Units), whereas a Shatabdi needs a Locomotive as it's puller and power supply source. VBEs don't need a locomotive to generate power, power generation happens from the under-slung mounted engines/other machineries.

Well, if you talk of an analogy with cars, Shatabdi may be an Octavia, but the VBE is built on a totally different platform, with a newly designed engines and a brand-new chassis

Oh yes! AFAIK, VBEs work on a regenerative braking concept(?). Plus, EMUs generate far less noise while in operation than a conventional loco-driven train (Shatabdi). I can vouch for this as I stay right next to the suburban station in Mumbai
