Re: A rare Tata 407 4x4 | 1300 km road trip

Awesome write up Karthik !! I felt like I was riding with you guys while reading.
I'm just imagining what an experience it would've been !!

If you don't mind, what did the 407 cost. (just curiosity)
and how much fuel did it consume to reach the destination..

Does it come with a PS ?
How is the clutch and gear compared to a normal car (operating wise)

Take a bow buddy. This is one hell of a Travelogue/Car Review/DIY thread.
Your writing skill really kept me glued and am sure everyone enjoyed it.

Re: A rare Tata 407 4x4 | 1300 km road trip

The lengthiest meaning for the word PASSION is the first page of this thread. Awesome. Take a bow guys.

We always talk about Linea's, VW's, TSI's, GT's, but this 407 has proved, there are other vehicles on the road which are equally exiting to be driven.

@funkykar, What a narration I always thought AR Rehman is the only guy who can make you feel the actual drama behind with his music, but, NO. Your writing has made me feel as if I was driving along with you.

Re: A rare Tata 407 4x4 | 1300 km road trip

Karthik, You are NUTS & so are Sujith & Chethan and Arun definitely is a darling
This travelogue is way better than those scenic ones in Europe or US.

Special thanks must be extended to Tom & Varun. The weather and the route surely made it a fun drive but believe me doing the same drive in summers when engine bay "HEATS" up the cabin would not have been a pleasant one.

The best part is finding such a clean & good vehicle & your friend's (long-distance) bet has surely paid-off well. I envy him to have such a determined & CRAZY friends.

Regards.

Wonderful "travelogue" Funkykar! Enjoyed reading every bit of it.

Kudos to Sujith and Chethan too!

While seeing the videos, I was expecting a lot of play in that 407 steering, but it seems well sorted. And nicely pulled off the party trick with the FWD escape

Chethan has a strong resemblance of the actor Pranav Mohanlal.

I couldn't find a matching pose with similar hairdo, but this should give an idea.

Lovely travelogue Mr.funkykar. Absolutely loved it. Read the whole log with a smile on my face. Have to give it to you to find such unique 'collectibles' and on top of that, you create an experience along with it. Super! May you continue to create more such experiences in the future too

We quickly spoke to Aditya and fixed up a place on ring road where we could meet. Luckily there was a good hotel and we stopped by. As soon as we stopped, the owner came running to shoo us away. After he saw our outfit and our intention to get to his hotel, he calmed down

The 3 of us had some snacks and good coffee. Then Aditya drove the 407 for a few kilometres and got back some memories of their family owning a 407 long back for form use. Soon after, we continued our journey to Bangalore.
I was never going to miss an opportunity to drive this although I would have loved to try the 4x4 as well. Having seen, owned and driven a 407 long back, it was a pleasure to have driven it to rekindle my memories. Thanks a ton!

Hey Vinay, indeed it has been quite a long time since we met. I have spotted you a couple of times though. Great to hear from you

You are amazing. And you are really living a life which many like me just dream of.

I closely follow all your acquisition threads and they are very interesting. Everytime I read your threads that itch to get an old car intensifies.

Can't thank you enough for sharing these amazing acquisition threads.

Re: A rare Tata 407 4x4 | 1300 km road trip

This is the craziest, funniest & most interesting road trip that I have ever read about.

Congratulations!
Your narration made me feel I was sitting inside the cab with you guys.

Any idea what your friend ultimately plans to do with this vehicle?

- All the 4 tyres were old and hard.
- Battery was good
- Power, pickup and torque was good. This is naturally aspirated and engine note was very healthy
- No heating issues. No leaks from radiator
- No leaks of engine, Gearbox, brakes or differential oils
- Engine did not appear to be touched
- Checked for any sounds or issues of the 4x4
- Brakes were nice and good. Could tell there is a lot of life left too
- All electricals functioned properly including wiper
- RC, insurance, permit and Fitness verified and validated online too.
- Checked operation of the tipper. All found to be good. The tipper lever had become loose and would engage while driving. Owner said he will get that tightened.
Any photographs of the 4x4 lever/operating mechanism?

I guess this is the NA version of TATAs later 3.0L DICOR engine?
