Interesting. However, am surprised that they are using the old model styling for this. After the smart looking Super Ace, this style is 2 steps back. I dont think the target market is any less savvy than PV customers that they will completely overlook the design that this has.

How does offering this CV in petrol makes sense ?

Does it deliver phenomenal petrol mileage (30+ kmpl) that CV market will move away from conventional diesel and cheaper CNG fuel.

And yes, looks could have been easily improved.

Tata claims it has significant sales, perhaps in the NCR region. Nano`s heart is still being useful, it nevertheless was very overload friendly

Actually, the target customers of commercial vehicles generally do not care for looks, the #1 (and sometimes only) deciding factor is the economic aspect. upfront cost, spares cost, service cost and interval. All others are secondary to these requirements, with sometimes looks coming in last.
Afterall, the owners seldom have to drive the vehicles themselves.

Since these vehicles are used mainly for last mile delivery and such, having a petrol powered engine means they can be easily converted to CNG with minimal modifications. Diesel engines can be modified but at greater cost. Plus the diesel torque requirement is also not that big an issue, mostly consumer goods are transported in these, not very heavy as such.
These could be the main reasons for launching the petrol powered vehicle.

That statement couldnt have been more wrong. The CV and PV segment customers are as different as chalk and cheese. Operating economics (perception based) and the reliability (perception based) are two most important factors in the segment. The ACE brand enjoys confidence in the segment for both.

The Chota Haathi brand (slang for Tata Ace) is nothing short of legendary in the SCV Space.

Humans too. Like PV customers. They didnt come from a lower world. As much as function, cost of purchase and operation are important, they too want nice looking vehicles. In certain segments like autorickshaws, there is not much option. But here there is.

My neighbor has a couple of these, and an Eicher. I talk to him and his driver regularly (he drives too).

Yes that is why Tata Ace will get run over by Maruti Super carry in cities like NCR where diesel is not preferred. They surely have an advantage in that space, Omni Cargo, Eeco as well were very popular.
