With the aim of making 'Mumbai Darshan' more fun and convenient for tourists, Maharashtra tourism and environment minister Aaditya Thackeray launches the Hop on Hop off (HoHo) bus service.

BEST will be running the AC electric buses from 9 am to 8 pm at the pricing of Rs 250 per passenger. It will give tourists, as well as the Mumbaikars, an opportunity to explore the city and take unlimited rides.

Frequency: 30 mins

Halting Points: CSMT, Ranibaug, Siddhivinayak, Band Stand, Juhu Chowpatty , Nehru Science Centre/ Nehru Planetarium, Mani Bhavan, Hanging Garden, Aquarium, Museum and Gateway of India.

Long back I had taken such a service in Delhi and it wasn't great. We tend to lose lot of time waiting for the bus to come and the 30 Min frequency is based on ideal conditions and that we all know would never happen.

It's more like "South Mumbai" Darshan, with Juhu Chowpatty being an exception. There are many spots missing from this like Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Film City, Aqsa beach, etc. to name a few. Why would someone pay Rs. 250 for a bus ride that is nowhere close to a cab in terms of comfort, or trains in terms of speed.

Could have piloted with just starting off at CST and do around Fort, Kala Ghoda, etc. for 25 bucks, and see how it goes from there.

But hey! we are just armchair analysts. Hope they have put enough thought into this.

The idea is excellent, but why not a double decker open top bus ?
They should have given that a thought, such a bus with lower AC level would have been perfect for tourists.

Just imagine sitting in one as you cross Bandra Worli sea link.

Bangalore had this service some time back. I have not seen it though - and not sure if it is running still

A modern double decker AC bus would surely make sense. But those are not at all available in India & would mean more waste of money by importing some specific buses for this exclusive purpose.

As for open top double deck buses - we are talking of Aapli-Mumbai. Either people will be drenched in rain OR they'll look like a heap of tar after a 5 minute ride. The pollution (and particulate matter), humidity & non stop sweat are one awesome combination on offer 24x7 in Mumbai. To be honest - I'm just glad that the government did NOT make such a plan.

As for the Bandra-Worli sea link - the toll plaza will need significant modifications to let a double deck bus pass through .
