Urbania was revealed to a select set of dealers today (21st November 2022) and has already commenced its production with the first lot of vans reaching the dealerships within a fortnight.

Urbania which is internally codenamed T1N is the country's first completely indigenous modular monocoque van platform developed with an investment of Rs. 1000 crore.

The next generation shared mobility platform has been developed with global ambitions meant for select markets of the Middle East, Africa, ASEAN and South America where Urbania is expected to offer high value proposition when compared to the premium products from Europe and USA.

The Urbania is the first vehicle in this category offering crash and rollover compliance with air bags for driver and co-driver even though the current Indian legislation does not mandate them. In addition, it comes with large, ventilated disc brakes on all four wheels with ESP, ABS, EBD and ETDC offering segment leading safety features for its passengers. It provides independent front suspension with transverse springs for superior passenger ride and handling characteristics.

The van comes equipped with DRLs, Projector Head Lamps and Signature Tail Lamps with light guide technology.

It has an ergonomically designed cockpit with a car-like steering wheel with tilt and telescopic adjustable steering column and is the first in its segment to offer all wheel disc brakes.

The Urbania platform has been designed as a two-box construction keeping the engine fully outside ensuring least NVH in the passenger compartment and it will be powered by the tried and tested Mercedes derived engine producing 115 Bhp, BS6 compliant, Common Rail Diesel Engine with a peak torque of 350 Nm between 1,400 to 2,200 RPM.

The two box construction of the Urbania will support both ICE and ELECTRIC powertrains

11, 14 and 18 seater variants are on offer. The company claims to offer 25 first-in-segment features. Force Motors also has plans to provide a three-zone climate control and an infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

re: Force Motors unveils the Urbania

If they price it well and extend flexible financing options for the prospective buyer, this will be a hit.
As it is Force Motors has a stranglehold over the office transportation segment and the 10+ seater Tourist coach segment market with its Traveller.
This will strengthen its position further.

An aftermarket grill will make it a Mercedes Sprinter van , at least from the outside. Looks like they are finally planning to put the traveler to rest, its about time.

So finally it is launched.

http://www.forceurbania.co.in

It looks like a good product; the main thing will be the refinement of the interiors. Their engines are not an issue.

Ha ha. The segment is pretty much owned by Force in the guise of the Traveller.

Yes, but you can not register it as a white-board/ private passing vehicle.

Yes. I asked around recently and am sure that it is possible. The price has not been as VFM as it use to be though, similar to any car in the market.

The website is up, with pics of interior and exterior.

Looks quite good. If the 11 seater can be registered as a private vehicle, then would be nice to replace first few seats into a 1+1 captain seat config, and a sleep-able bench seat behind that. Will make for a good travel vehicle.

If you look at the video on the website, the vehicle has a white plate, if it suggests something. I have seen Tata Wingers in the past being registered as private vehicle in Gujrat.

That steering wheel looks bad though. I wish they had a better looking steering wheel on what is a rather decent looking vehicle

You can register the humble goods auto also as a private vehicle. A family friend, had a farm outside Bengaluru, and he had 2 private autos. One passenger auto, and one goods auto, both for use in the farm. He had " Private Use" painted all over it, as people often wanted to flag him down for rentals.

re: Force Motors unveils the Urbania

Why use a different nameplate when Traveller is already a massive brand in itself? Are they trying to position this above the Traveller, keeping both on sale?

Speaking of names, I don’t know what their inspiration was, but, many people will pronounce it as the hit song from Gangs of Wasseypur - O Womaniya

Absolutely.
My exact reaction the moment I saw this thread and the pictures!
Force Vans anyway are derived from Mercedes. I guess they’re just continuing with the Cryonic Preservation of that DNA, much like Mahindra are, with the Thar.

Not likely. The Urbania looks to be an A/c only line-up, unlike the TT which has openable windows.

Seating capacity. I believe the max seating capacity allowed for private registration is 9. Earlier, 11 was the cut-off, as can be seen with the crewcab pickups like the Telcoline and Scorpio Getaway.

The Force Toofan/Cruisers have seating options between 9 and 13. Officially, the 9 is available everywhere for private registration also. However, I have seen one 13 seater Cruiser with a white-board.

Could be. The Traveller likely to continue for some more time - may be till the Urbania also comes with the sliding windows ?

I couldn't spot engine specifications on website, is it same FM 2.6 from other Force vehicles?

Force motors assembles Mercedes engines and used to use it in their vehicles till some time back. Not sure if current BS6 engine is a derivative of previous engine.
