Mumbai to get it's 4th Vande Bharat Train | Mumbai to Goa

This is in the news today :

https://www.hindustantimes.com/citie...907864624.html

Given that much of the Konkan Railway is single line with loop crossings at regular intervals, scheduling a high speed train is going to be a challenge.

While the details are yet to be finalised, the dual cab layout for the motorman at both ends of the Vande Bharat Express could just be the ideal solution for running a solitary daily train from the Western Railway side of Mumbai (Bandra - Borivali - Vasai) to Goa, with a reversal of direction at Vasai Station taking just 5 minutes for the motorman and guard to change ends.

The loco reversal problem at Vasai was the main reason cited for not having a regular train running from the Western Railway side of Mumbai to Goa. Few holiday specials are run seasonally along this route with the reversal of loco at Vasai involving a long halt of 30 minutes or more.

Majority of the daily buses on the Mumbai to Goa route originate from the Western suburbs of Mumbai, so there is a sizeable passenger population waiting to be tapped.

They could consider the following as halts :
  • Bandra
  • Borivali
  • Vasai road
  • Panvel
  • Ratnagiri
  • Thivim
  • Madgaon

Let's see how this goes.

VB Always gets priority no 1. I just returned from a journey to coimbatore through Uday express and on both Onward and return journeys, all trains were stopped to allow for VB to pass.

When its the top man's pet project they would band backwards.

Roha wouldn't be a halt - its a case of the reporter not understanding railway short forms. Roha is a hand over point for trains from Central Railway to Konkan Railway and vice versa - hence the passing time would be mentioned on the timetable with a remark "Th" (Through) - the reporter mistook the timing as a scheduled stop.

Its not about being a project of the top man. Trains on Indian Railways always had a priority structure, and trains of lower priority always had to stop for trains with a higher priority. Trains like Rajdhani and Shatabdi used to overtake trains routinely.

True that. Mail/ Express trains had priority over Passenger and freight trains, and then certain " prestigious" trains have higher priority like Rajdhani and some of the more celebrated trains like Frontier, DQ, Gitanjali, etc. But in certain situations strategic trains can get priority like Jhelum Exp or indeed any priority freight ( military equipment for example).
