5-7 tonner

We need to buy a 5-7 tonne truck for my dads factory so i thought i will take some suggestions. Till now we hv got 3 DCM Toyotas. One of them is 14 yrs old and time has come to change it. Now that it is no longer available (sad part) need to decide on some other. 3 yrs back we also got Tata 407(i think) and it turned out to be night mare. We had to open the engine in 6th month itself so sold it after couple of months as it was always trouble some. We are thinking of Eicher or Iveco.

Do we have any more choices in LCV?

Eichers are good value, My dads transport company owns a fleet of these apart from tatas, and cargos. But the eichers are the best, on hassles at all, most of them have done more 175,000 km and not touched the engines [needs Half to one liter oil around 4000km], have not touched any thing, except for electrical. Alternator on one had to be replaced under warranty, dealer did it quit fast and had put a replacement till the new one arrived from the company.so no down time.
spare are cheaper than IVECO .
10.9 gives around 5-6 kmpl when loaded [the old one] the new E6 model gives better [have heard from owners who ply with the company ,we do not own any].

Good info... Heard Eicher is going to be taken over by some other company. Is that true? Wondering why Toyota and Mitshubshi vanished from Indian market.

First, i must for bringing trucks into this section.

Hey cowboy, Ivecos were discontinued long back.
We've got one. We just picked up an Eicher 10.90 about 6 months back and its too short a time to comment on it.Though, its running parfait!

Its very surprising to hear that U had a bad experience with the 407 since its a very VERY successful model in the Indian CV industry. We have a 15 year old one and she still runs with an "un-opened" engine.Touchwood.

You dont have much choices in commercial vehicles in india, Iveco was discontinued long back. You have 709s, 808s from Tata.

Eicher 10.90 is a Good Choice. Also You may consider the swaraj mazda...

ALL have the cargo/ comet range, but in this category Eichers and tatas are more popular. Swaraj Mazda are ok but I feel the engines on these are not that powerful. have no idea of recent models.

Mitsubishi and Eicher

Mitsubishi had the tie-up with Eicher Motors and the technical tie-up was not renewed after 1995 or so. Even now Mitsubishi holds about 3.5% of the publicly held shares of Eicher Motors.

What about Mahindra LCVs? A lot of them are being used in Kerala. My brother says Eicher vehicles are great for highway running and the Mahindras are great for rural areas and to work in places like quarry etc.
