Was just thinking.. when there comes a time in the very near future to change the models of our Taxis(Premier Padminis),
which car do u think would be assigned for the job as a Taxi??

Actually this is difficult to say.. as there is nothing that can match the Premier Padmini in the case of Cheap parts which are repairable anywhere... that kinda of space...etc.

Well after thinking a lot on this i have come upto 2

1: Tata Indigo Diesel
Very Comfortable, very ecnonmical to run

2:Suzuki Alto 0.8
Not that big as compared to Indigo...but economical and can make 3 people+driver travel with comfort!

Give your thoughts plzz!!

Ya. The Tata Indigo D is a good option. Quite economical.

Anyways, what do u guys think abt "motorcycle" taxis?? Goa has them. The riders are called "Pilots" [dont ask me why].

Also they should introduce "electric" rickshaws. Will lower the tariffs a lot. One thing i always wonder. Shouldnt the tariff for a diesel [or LPG/CNG] cab/auto be lesser compared to petrol ones. What you say??

Indigo diesel seems a good idea... decent saloon with lots of luggage space .. requirement for a taxi.. Plus its one of the most comfortable cars around.. Not fun to drive but then thats the taxis drivers problem

Aside from the Indigo, which would be a great taxi, I feel the Indica too would be terrific. Then we have the Omni, which, in its day would have been a good taxi too. Now ofcourse it is too old and not the safest car on the roads. Mind you, its still way better than the Padmini's!

Wouldn't it be great to see Toyota Corolla taxi's like they have in other Southeast asian countries! Since I'm wishing actually, might as well make it an E class!! Now wouldn't that be something!! I'd leave my car at home and take a taxi to work everyday!

Well,as per my thought i wud recommend Cielo,Astra,or Escorts. They wud run on the LPG/CNG kits. All of these cars were ruling during thier era's and are spacious enough and look neat from outside. The only drawback was the average which wud be solved wit LPG/CNG kits.
Laterz!!

We have already started getting Indica Taxis in Kolkata..and its a welcome respite from the Yellow Amby's.
Indica cabs are Blue in color(after the taxi co. name..Blue Arrow) and these are airconditioned...but again a choice, when you avail of this cab, u can either opt for a/c ride or a non- a/c ride !
And the fare is nominally higher than Yellow amby's.

Rtech, dont look so far...just look at our neighbouring Bangladesh...they got Corolla's & other top-end cars as taxis. And they have made them hi-tech service..all the cabs are being centrally controlled/tracked by cab operations offices..so as a passenger, if you need one, just call them and they will tell you precisely when your cab wud reach your door to pick u up!! And if there's a jam in your route the driver wud know that earlier hand (again thru the central control) and wud suggest you alternate shortest route.
And mind you, Bangladesh is not that developed as us!!!

i was thinking more along the lines of a maruti versa
if fiats wants to amke gains in the mrket they could relaunch the uno diesel in trend version as a taxi
hey dippy im willin to join ure union
a stripped down petra will be cool to but not indigo or ca as in the long run they turn to be a liitle more problematic

hey arijit
bangladesh is not as developed as us but are catching up real quick and may soon be ahead of us . if corollas are cabs there then the camry may be a poor mans car .......
if only this happened in india ...
i would be owning a couple of mercs and all u vtec lovers maybe something faster .......
imagine that
but even if that happened , the condition of our road is still really sad and will need loads of improvements

Hey lamborghini,
We are still luckier than them..I have been seeing them from close quarters for quiet a few years now, apart from few things, you wouldn't wish our country to be like theirs (And I am not unermining them in any means...as the people there are more friendly & helpfull than many of us Indians!!)
And cars, man you can actually see loads of Toyotas/Fords/Chevrolets etc etc. but 95% of them reconditioned ones. A new car costs hell...e.g a new Maruti 800 for that matter cost equivalent to Rs.4-4.5 lakhs!!

But whatever said, when u ride the taxis there, u feel like a king!
