Does this have the same heart as Safari under the hood?

Yes, it has the same 2.2L engine from the Safari.

The vehicle looks very good. I think, with the price that it is offered at, a few prospective Safari buyers would want to have a look at it.

Me too waiting for the TD reports and comparo charts from the stalwarts. I think, it is a gud VFM and has okayish look, nothing that exciting though. But, the price is attractive, what say?

Decent pricing, especially considering that the 2.2 dicor safari 4X4 showroom price is way higher than this (10 lakhs plus).

Any sensible person should wait for the third edition of a new vehicle from the house of Tatas before buying it. They routinely test their vehicles after the launch - as opposed to other companies who test their vehicles before the launch - and get Indian customers to fund their tests.
And Tata vehicles are indeed "killers" - if not in looks, in safety definitely. I don't know any survivor from a Sumo accident.

I think tata offshored the testing to south africans and thais :D

I surprised. It looks rather bland, really - they could've taken some extra effort to make it look a bit more mean.

The sooner Tata loses the smiley face from all their products, the better. Friendly is okay in a hatchback, but not on a truck. There are no friendly trucks.

Something 5 door based on Xenon would have been a good offering...
i tried on paint, something like this....:)

OK, let me be more specific - compared to what else is on offer, it looks a killer!

Well, if you check out the canopy option on their website, its similar to what you've come up with ;). Besides, this is supposed to be a pick-up remember?

so right sudipto! i agree completely..its shameful and i wonder sometimes why people still buy products from these companies (mahindra included)

safety, ergonomics refinement, reliability are words not found in the dictionary of either of these companies!

i guess the 5 door version is nothing but our sumo grande.. i wish it was like the one shown above..

Not really, the dimensions of the two are completely different. Check out the attached file

Are you guys serious about buying a 5000+ MM in length vehicle and drive around city roads? IMO, this vehicle makes sense ONLY as a second highway vehicle and not something to be used as a daily driver.

But I would still be horribly jealous if I see one in the city.

I'm looking for a bigger vehicle that rides comfortably, I'll be able to manage another year with the Swift, but when the 2nd child seat is installed, I'm going to be in trouble. By that time, the Xenon would have been completely beta tested. Even if it isnt, I still would buy it considering the price its on offer at. Unless some one else brings out a similar vehicle at a similarly mouth watering price.
The Scorpio Getaway 4X4 , I think comes cheaper, but it has the older 2.6 CRDe and pitches and wallows a lot.
The other good thing about having a 4X4 as a daily driver- means that I dont have to buy a 2nd hand jeep or gypsy(save another 3-4 lacs)
