Daimler JV pact with Hero for Trucks

Does anyone has detailed news on the Daimler JV pact with Hero for Trucks. I heard they have already decided to go with Hero. Where is the production going to happen and what models they will launch?
Will it give a tough fight to Tatas and Ashok leylands??

Daimler, Hero truck JV to invest Rs 4,400 cr in 5 yrs

The JV has been signed and they are looking at manufacturing the light and medium CV's initially and heavy duty trucks by 2012.

The greenfield facility will come up either in Chennai, Pune or Haryana.

This article also mentions that Daimler has been assembling the Actros range of trucks in India for some time. Has anybody seen one on the roads?

How do these range of trucks compare to the other truck manufacturers?

There is no mention of buses being introduced though.

That's the fastest growing segment. If they keep the pricing right, it should get Tata worried given that the models will be India-specific.

For the time being, those CBU trucks would continue to be sold by Mercedes Benz India, not by this JV.

Interestingly, ET reports that the trucks that this JV will make will not be sold under Mercedes brand nor under any other existing brand owned by MB. Instead, an altogether new brand will be created for these trucks.

MB still has about 6% shareholding in Tata Motors. Its relations with TM must be quite cordial and could be the reason behind this major policy decision.

Hero Honda was not given this comfort when Honda decided to launch two-wheelers in India on its own in spite of its existing JV Hero-Honda doing well. This had caused a lot of heartburning to the Munjals/Hero Group who gave the Press Note 18 NOC to Honda quite reluctantly.
