wow a peterbilt in india. Great find . Really a rare commodity amongst the heavy movers in india. Good to see something apart from the leylands and tata's. Wonder why the mack's, freightliners or kenworths are not keen at the indian market when volvo, merc and tatra's already giving it a serious look.

re: Peterbilt (American Truck) in India

Punjab State Power corp has a Kenworth for ages. I often see it transporting huge transformers. And If I can make a correct guess , then I have been spotting it for more than 25 years. It is almost a junk now. But still has an attitude.

Peterbilt @ Madurai

I never knew about the interest Peterbilt generated in this forum until recently

So here's a find @ Madurai Meenakshi Hospital. It was used to pull something which looked like a Mobile Health Unit or something.

It's a RHD. Didn't know it was available in RHD.

This is from Navistar right? This is used for pulling the Mobile testing center. Saw this guy parked inside the nearby shed of Madurai Meenakshi Mission hospital in Feb 2011. I havent seen this in the recent past.

Yes, this is the Navistar, International WorkStar 7400. Not a Peterbilt.

I wonder how this American trucks would do in India? They never made any serious inroads in Europe. Mainly for two reasons. They are way to big and they are not powerful enough. Although they look (and are actually BIG) many European manufacturers produce truck that are much more agile pulling big loads. A friend of mine owned a trucking company and he had a partnership with an American Trucking company. Years ago they swapped a few trucks and the Dutch truckies were not impressed at all by the American trucks!

And here is my contribution to the thread. Spotted on April 11th morning near Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.

Our corrupt Government in order to protect the interests of the Tatas and the Ashok Leylands prevents aam admi citizens like myself from importing any superior machine (1st hand or used) while their own organisations are allowed used imports without any restrictions. Practice what you preach Big Brother .

.

amazing find. thanks a lot for sharing. I really wonder why there are no Indian competitors in the oil services field. I suppose it is just a totally alien market space.

Also, I believe that truck is from Canada or Australia. I don't recall seeing such bullbars on trucks in USA.

You are right. That truck is from Canada. Note the Metric weight ratings.

Those "Bull" bars are for Moose and Elk commonly found on Canadian winter roads.

Oilfield sector requires highly specialized equipment with a lot of hydraulic, electric and other sub assemblies. There are only a handful of specialized equipment manufacturers in the world. The one above is made by General:
http://www.generalbody.ca/frmPageGal...lName=Wireline

Plus, the base chassis has to be capable enough to take the load, and provide both motive and operational power.

Cheers

Are the "Bull" Bars to save the Moose and Elk from the Truck or the truck from them?

I was driving to Tanot from Jaisalmer this morning when I came across a truck carrying two American looking semi truck tractors. No camouflage or registration on them.

Re: Peterbilt (American Truck) in India

Spotted this Freightliner cruising on Airport Road. It had a private registration which showed it was registered in 2007.
