The hardtop MMs you see are armoured Mahindra Commander, not Boleros!

Since our beloved Bawa ji sir has shifted base from MM to TATA, he is refering to Sumo 4x4 in the 8th photo.

So you have already seen my post in the other thread regarding....4972.

But sir ji, 4972 has lots of issues....its weight is a big issue and it needs to go on a diet. 4972 needs to become lean and mean.

The subject in the 8th picture and 4972 are two different products because the army product looks lean and mean, where as the 4972 is big and bulk.

Im sure the test results are and being evaluated and being utilised for improvements.

Also with the launch of Gurkha, some changes would be brought into 4972, as it does have an advantage over Thar in terms of some equipment.

And 4972 opens a room for wider discussion on the subject.

Re: 4x4s in the Indian Army

This seemed an appropriate thread for some pictures of the mighty Tatra.

Unfortunately got a lot of bad press, but unmatched as a vehicle in its capabilties.

Re: 4x4s in the Indian Army

Does anybody have updates on the final rounds of the testing for the GSV models being evaluated by the Army? Would especially be interested to know what Nissan is putting forward for contention, hopefully they'll release it for the civvy market as well

Re: 4x4s in the Indian Army

Indian Babus need to given these vehicles (MM550) for daily use for their offices in south block, then only they will realise what vehicles are required by our SFs.

The Safari Storme in olive green is the new staff vehicle in the Indian army replacing the Amby and the Gypsy.

The MM 550 is being used by the Paras/SFs.

I really hope TML is taking the necessary precautions for quality control with the army order and not make those cars like the usual civilian cars. It would have been better had they army selected the D-Max V-cross or the Hilux. Tried and tested workhorses.

Thank you for posting these pictures. I absolutely adore Tatra.
I love their unorthodox backbone tube concept.

Mods: Please excuse my fanboyishness

I would like to see more of them in India, but the army only use them to carry missiles and sensitive equipment.

It's a shame that in the Dakar rally they don't finish higher, otherwise their vehicle is truly unmatched

Re: 4x4s in the Indian Army

I guess the Army never found a proper replacement to the Jonga with it's almost 4 Lit Inline 6 petrol, low RPM and HP and immense truck like torque.

Remember the buses catching fire after accidents. How these incidents started and again suddenly stopped. This was due to ATF then being priced almost 40% below Diesel. ATF is just a pure form of kerosene, and available in bulk a few 1000 lit of stolen stuff used to gets out into the highway side black market.
