pedrolourenco: Brilliant, Sir. Glad you've brought us this perspective.
Here are some more photos of the VEENDIJK. We carried out a 2nd round of tests over 3 days and finally it was delivered to the owners yesterday.
1.Tachometer-RPM for max speed 750RPM. In fact we keep the RPM constant and vary the speed by adjusting the pitch of the propeller.
2.Other gauges like turbocharger pressure etc.
3.Radar
4.GPS, Echo Sounder, Anemometer & VHF Radio.
5.Autopilot.
6.Windsheild wiper controllers.
7.Navigation Lights Panel.
8.Sister ship "RODANUS" also being tested.
9&10. Docked at Mormugao Harbour ready for delivery. (Infact PDI in progress.)

Hey, the Knock Nevis was damaged big time during the gulf war (?). It was taken to dry docks and rebuilt with a new name as Seawise Giant. It was later bought by Jahre Wallem Shipmanagement based out in Hong Kong. The ship was christened TT (Turbine Tanker) Jahre Viking. How do I know? My elder brother worked for this company and his colleague sailed as a cadet on this one. It is a horrible ship in his experience and keeps breaking down. The owners are running it in a loss just to carry on a heritage. It is mostly used as a storage tanker off Fujairah.
Turbine Tanker Jahre Viking
I have a few pictures of another ship on which my brother sailed named TT Sea World. It has been scrapped and was at one time the widest ship in the world.
It is quite interesting to know the salutations used for ships:
TT - Turbine Tanker
MT - Motor Tanker
MV - Motor Vessel
Pedro is banned else he could have filled in.
More on TT Jahre Viking --
Turbine Tanker Jahre Viking
And hey, most of the crew and officers on board the Viking are Indians :)
I speak of tankers mostly because my brother usually sails on tankers and I happen to read his course books too often. Ships are classified as VLCC, etc. VLCC - Very Large Crude Carrier. Huge ships that do not see ports for most of its life. They discharge away from sea shores and are mostly at offshore jetty's. Imagine not seeing the coast for your entire journey!!

3 Gyros
2 Echosounders
Robtrack

Powered with 2 propeller type Norpower Workboats(Each boat can pull the 100 m long ship)

Hello All ,
I chanced upon this thread today -
Can somebody confirm if Rolls Royce is manufacturing marine main propulsion units - I have come across Rolls Royce Steering systems and Rolls Royce Auxiliary Engines / Generators , but this is the first time I am hearing about Rolls Royce main propulsion unit .
I know of marine main engines ( excluding auxiliary engines ) manufactured by :
MAN
Sulzer
B & W ( Burmeister & Wain )
Pielstick ( 4 stroke marine engines !!! )
FIAT
Caterpillar
Mitsubishi
Deutz
Wartsila
During the present times most of the engines are either MAN B&W or Wartsila Sulzer
The details above applicable for commercial vessels as distinct from pleasure crafts.
TT stands for Turbine Tanker as distinct from MV ie Motor Vessel -
TT : The shaft for the propellor is turned using a turbine - which is normally steam driven and the ship has a massive boiler to generate the steam required for the turbine.
MV : The shaft for the propellor is turned by an internal combustion engine.
Regards
Chauhan

Yes they have marine diesel engines for propulsion.
We are building Platform Supply Vessels(PSV) now. The entire design and propulsion units are from RRM.
This is the engine which is used in PSVs
nice post.
how come he has been banned?
Hi friends, I am starting this new thread today , it is about MV WISDOM a ship which is agrounded in Juhu beach in Mumbai for the last 5 days.
Respected Moderaters if I am in wrong place please put this thread in right place.
Today I had gone to Juhu to see what is being done to the ship as regards to pulling it back to the deep sea with Tug boats. It had come in the papers that today by 3PM they will pull out the ship.
There was madness at 2.45 PM at Juhu bach, people with wives ,children were there to witness maybe once in a life time experience.
But to my surprice there were no Tug boats no pulling ropes etc, just few people on the ship were seen moving about, that too stopped in an hr time.
People said they tried to pull the ship but ropes broke , and some said that they may try tomorrow or else it will have to be broken down here itself like the one on Carter road.
There were TV News crews of almost all channels with their ugly looking vans, I saw one girl news reporter of IBN CNN 8 giving out news.
The Paani puri wala Kalakhatta wala are doing brisk bussiness.
Kindly see the photos ,just few of them, as there was no sun shine and it was high tide time.
