Though ridden with errors, it has some useful bits

A specific pick-up truck needed - Tatamobile

Hi everyone,

This is a post for leads on this specific pickup truck that I am looking for. In case you see any good samples, and can check with the owner if they are willing to sell, please let me know. I am not looking for the "better" options.

Wanted:
Tatamobile 207-tatamobile2062.jpg

I am not expecting a top-condition sample, but hoping to find one in good working condition with paperwork in place. This particular one came tilll 2000, I think. After that it was the DI version.

I see some Telcoline crew-cabs on sale, but not able to stretch to that point at this time. Hope to get one sometime later, but at this point this older model will do. The option I would consider is the crewcab version.

And gentlemen, please do not suggest Any other model - even the modern Isuzu's, the Xenon and definitely not the Getaway. Force Kargo, Mahindra pickup are the "competition", as seen by the market.

The dream car will be the Single-cab Telcoline. Hope she does come. But till then, the Tatamobile.

You should be able to find some in Kerala. What's the budget you are looking at?

Also note that, all the examples you find will be battered to the core. Have no resale, and will cost a bomb to restore. So, unless it's of a sentimental value, or you have some project in which only this car will go, I'm not sure how it'll work out for you.

So - If I may ask, what is the intended purpose?

Such battered examples are available - there is one in my neighborhood. Like you said, the problem with these is the condition. And then the cost of getting paperwork done.

I saw one go here for 35k recently. Sentimental, yes but not that crazy to pick up for ground up rebuild at unrealistic prices.

The DI's are available at upwards of 3L. But not looking for those.

What was the difference between 206 and 207?? Hearing about it for the first time, hence would love to learn more about it.

What also interested me, are those Maruti 800 Type 1 style ORVMS.

Regards,
Shashi

This pickup was called the 206 when it was first launched.

207 is more the one with the Di engine ( the commercial pickup that we see mostly ).
So the 207 has the 3 liter engine from the 407, and later was turbo charged.

The 206 / Tatamobile came with the 1948 cc engine, no turbo.

This was upgraded in many ways to become the Telcoline, with a TCIC 1948cc engine.

Exports of all these models have been happening since 1990.

Re: Tatamobile 207

Came across this FB page about the 207 Di - also called Loadbeta in some countries. Nice to see this pickup in countries across Europe and Africa.

I am losing count of how many countries it was sent to. May be have to make a list now.

Re: Tatamobile 207

While browsing to search for used TL's, I came across this ad from UAE. The stickers on the vehicle say "135HP MPFI" .. Was the TL ever launched in Petrol ? This wold be news.

Re: Tatamobile 207

To answer my own question - actually info shared by fellow TBHP-ian: This one is naturally an export model. The engine could be the same one that was used in the Petrol Safari that was around earlier.

Jeez - Tata has done so many things !

Re: Tatamobile 207

These memories are at least 20 years old, but I am fairly certain they are accurate.

In the 90's, Tata sold their pick-ups (guess it was Tatamobile then and the Telcoline came later) in Mozambique. I seem to remember that they had a petrol engine. My understanding is they sold Petrol engined vehicles in the export market. In a lot of countries, the price of petrol and diesel was, and in fact is, very similar. Therefore the export versions had a petrol engine. The Indian market was, for a very long time, one where diesel was considerably cheaper than petrol, encouraging diesel engines in any and every vehicle.

Of all the examples I have come across online, this one was a first - I had not seen a GLE version before this. The petrol Safari was said to be a guzzler. Wonder how did this one perform.

Btw, one 1997 model single owner version has come up for sale. But in Vadodara :(. There are a couple of others, but asking price is on the higher side.
