I think the difference is due to shorter rear overhang.

Additionally, most of KeSRTC buses are 210 inch wheelbase (Cheetahs). The buses in question do seem to be of still shorter wheelbase, (the AL site does list 2 wheel base options for Cheetahs), but definitely, they are not on truck chassis.

Do not get confused by higher ground clearance - it is just that the bus body building was rather stingy.

Alina (Seen here) appeared to be a Cheetah to me. Its surely a Leyland - could also be a shorter Viking chassis. However going by the trend seen here, its gotta be a Cheetah.
But look at the front overhang!!!

And compare (the front overhang) with the MS Menon bus you termed as "elusive" - the one which converted from a contract carriage. It is a Viking. This tallies with my earlier remark - "most luxury / tourist buses are vikings".

Yes, According to this report in motor india, this is the face lifted Tourister, now called Mahindra Navistar. Trying to cash on Navistar name to sell this ugly product. I dont think Mahindra management learned much from their earlier mistakes (Read Logan). I can not believe Navistar allowed its name on a substandard product. By the way, does any one know why it is called in India 'Navistar' (the comany name), where as in US, the products is 'International' (brand name)?
MOTORINDIA ONLINE EDITION: Mahindra Navistar trucks to be unveiled at Auto Expo

Mahindra Navistar is already selling a range of LCVs, the Tourister and Loadking, which have been transferred to the JV from M&M. The new truck launch will be the first brand new product from the JV.

Currently the LCVs are being manufactured at M&M’s manufacturing facility at Zaheerabad. The company sells close to 10,000 units of the passenger and cargo versions.

The company has recently given a complete facelift to the existing LCV range.

Interior fit and finish seems very ordinary ( similar to local body builders)...nowhere near Volvo's.

So this is the "warld kilass product" that TATA wants to plot against the Volvo.

No wonders operators are not very keen on getting fully built buses from Indian bus manufacturers - body builders like Prakash and Veera put up much better buses than TATA and Leyland.

The old Globus did not have a lever for the Retarder - the retarder was activated while the brakes were applied - a similar mechanism exists in the current Volvos as well. Even Corona had a similar mechanism - I mean, a brake activated retarder.

Overall, this product is a HUGE letdown by TATA - they fail yet again in Implementation. The overall fit and finish looks typical of a TATA product
