I used to love travelling by my Car from Delhi To Jaipur on NH8, but since the traffic and the road situation is really bad these days, I would prefer to take a bus till the situation improves again.
So as of now if u ask me it will be bus, specially on Jaipur-Delhi highway.
Its car anyday. If the distance is long then it has to be the Train. I am 6'2" so its really difficult for me to adjust in a bus.
I prefer car over bus. I go to Pune almost every week for my work, if I happen to travel by Volvo some times it takes a hour to reach ex. highway from Pune station, total journey time comes to 4 hrs. But by own car you can do that in 2-2.5 hrs time. In Mumbai now-a-days BEST has started new AC bus services in many routes, but I prefers car, despite parking problem and creating green house effect!
ac bus if that service is available in a city.
Car only if one is driving on a smooth trouble free road OR when no other modes of transport exist
this is a car forum - what did you expect :-)
The bus definately :D
Hell no ways man, the car anytime. You stop when you want, where you want, sit in comfort and above all get to Drive. :D
If it's a choice between a car and bus, it's a car.
For long distances ( 12+ hrs ) the choice would be a train and not a bus.
And with 92% opting for a car on the poll so far, I think the preferences of bhp-ians are obvious :)
for me, like most of us here, the car hands down
car any day i have covered close to a 1000 kms in a stretch and still find it more convenient than trains but there is a little stress involved based on the roads you travel on.
if i have to travel alone to some place then its the bus.
i really hate the Indian railway system and find it very unhygienic.
I have traveled in buses for distances over 1000kms.
For an overnight journey or if you are traveling alone, I would any day suggest a bus.
From my various experience of Bus, Train, Car and Plane. I like bus travel the most. Its just exciting and amazing.
Positive side of bus travel: Its comfortable, Spacious, Speedy, You can stretch your leg and sleep if you are traveling in Sleeper coach bus or Semi Sleeper bus. No need to worry on route or road conditions, etc. Good or bad roads the buses manage to drop you at destination on time, No driving tension or physical stress. Safer on a highway especially at night. No need to search for hotels since they take breaks at least at some decent hotels where there are toilets. No tension if the vehicle breaks down, the driver and cleaner will fix it. So no need to search for Mechanics, tyre shop, etc.
Also if you are traveling in day time, you can at least watch some movies , theses days buses come with LCD screens which are much clear.
I have been traveling in Bangalore - Mangalore route since 7 plus years and almost every month I travel in this route. There are a lot of private operators who provide excellent service. Bus takes around 7/8 hrs but train takes 12 hours for the same route provided it runs on time. And Train timings doesn't suit if you are traveling for a weekend after your office hours.
There are around 100+ private buses and also 100+ Government buses and on a weekend all the buses run full.
Based on my experience I can say that 98% of my travel was memorable one and good.
Twice I have traveled in Bangalore - Mumbai route in bus. It took me around 17 Hours. The train takes 24 hours for the same route. Its one of the best routes to travel where the roads are good. The ride is just smooth.
And bus travel especially in South India is just wonderful, be it in Karnataka, Kerela, Tamil Nadu or Andhra Pradesh. You can reach any destination easily.
There are Plenty of big & reputed operators who provide various classes of service to suit your budget. You can just rely on them. VRL is one of the biggest operators in Karnataka.
Also the government buses in South are well maintained and provide a good service. You have Volvo's, Air conditioned Sleeper buses in Government buses.
My best bus types are Mercedes Benz, Volvo Multi Axel and 2+1 Sleeper coach. Compared to earlier days, buses are getting more comfortable and safer.
Here are some bus operators link on my website you can look into the gallery on the type of buses.
Bus (Yeshwanth Live)
One advice: When you book your ticket from agent just be careful, there are lot of agents who try to cheat if you are unaware of buses. Hence better to book bus ticket online.
Trains: I hate the smells at stations, unclean and unhygienic. Food is terrible in some routes.
If you are traveling in good buses, then the hotels are also good, which you will enjoy.
Plane: I feel I have been put in prison especially when you get the middle seat.
Car for Sure.
Would be in 2 minds if it is a long distance trip and I am the only person driving or the road condition is pathetic.
Arun
I have voted car as my frequent journeys are within 300 kms. If I need to travel long distances I would prefer train to bus.
car any day
train / plane for long journeys

I was going to say the same before you beat me to it.
I'd prefer not to put my life in someone's hand who's sleepy, over worked and sometimes drunk. Again IMO only.

What if the guy driving from the opposite is sleepy, over worked and drunk...lol:
In no way a car journey is safer than a bus journey..
infact the safest mode of transport is by air followed by train and road is the least safer.
