Re: Railway Pics

A clip of the newly introduced Gatimaan express, a semi high speed train between Delhi and Agra.
It does 160kmh most of the route except for crowded areas were the speed drops.
The journey of 190 kms is done in some 100 minutes and non stop.
It is hauled by an original ABB built imported loco at and average speed of 110 Kmh.
The previous fastest train is the Bhopal Shatabdi at 150 Kmh.

163 years of Indian Railways!

Every Indian has at least one train memory he’ll always remember. This is mine. As a child, we lived in Trivandrum, far away from the rest of our relatives in Central India.

The morning after summer vacations began, we’d be at Trivandrum station, waiting to board the train to take us to Khandwa. In my mind, that time of the morning, 10 am or so, has since felt like the right time to board a train. My father would make sure we reached the station an hour earlier, and my brother and I would hang around the station, browsing through the A H Wheeler stall, looking hungrily at the biscuits in the food stall, until my mother reminded us of the packed lunch she had brought along.

Re: Railway Pics

A couple of years ago, I visited the National Railway Museum in York (England). Absolutely awesome experience and a must do for all rail fans.

Entry is free and if you are a fan, allow for at least a day to take in the entire museum - its really worth it.

Enclosing some pics I took.

Re: Railway Pics

Not sure if posted before, but here are a few images from my side.
The images are taken from my mobile phone, location : Maternal Uncle's place.
Its on river bank and like most rivers of Saurashatra, its dried up since my memory servers me. But the railway bridge is 100+ years old I am told and built by British. My ( late ) maternal Grandfather saw the build after it was built. Its meter gauge as long as I remember. Haven't been there on the bridge since last 18 years, but its hardly a kilometer walk from my uncle's place. Similar bridge for road is also built by Indian authorities after independence or so. It has been under constant "maintenance" every now and then.

Re: Railway Pics

Few snaps taken at Baiyapanahalli station.

Ashok Leyland chassis most probably from the Hosur plant .
There were around 70 truck chassis loaded on the rake which included 4x2 rigid,4x2 tipper chassis, 4x2 and 6x4 horse, 10x2 and 8x2 rigids.

Thats a shunt signal - used when shunting. It also indicates permission for the locomotive to enter a turnout.
