2010 Hockey World Cup, Delhi | Official Ride for the Atheletes

A cherry coloured AC DTC Tata Marcopolo is easily spotted in Delhi, but what about a Jet Black Tinted one? Presenting the official bus for Teams participating in the World Cup.

The story behind the tints goes as follows. Initially, teams were transported in normal Brown tinted Marcopolos. The Low-Floor nature and huge windows make the interiors easily visible to the outsiders. The Canadian or Australian team raised questions about players safety and post-this the buses deployed on WC duty were tinted in Jet Black. These buses seem to be from the new lot and are provided security by 2 PCR's. SND on bus meand Sarojini Nagar Depot, which has recently become the new hub for Low Floor Marcopolos.

I only wonder that our cricketers are transported in Luxury Volvos and this being a Global event, the Organisers should've arranged for the same. I've never travelled in these AC Marcopolos hence I can't comment on the comfort aspect of these buses. Seems Delhi Government pushed these DTC's for showcasing the world our new Low Floor Buses. Lets await CWG in October to see what's the new offering from Delhi Government.

I spotted 2 such buses on City route. Here are the pics:

Because the budget for cricket will be at least 2 times more than Hockey and same in case of revenue. So no volvo's for Hockey players

These are extremely comfortable and dare say, the ride is no worse than the Volvos. These buses anyways do the best routes within delhiand are in good shape. most volvos esp the regular DTC Delhi-Vaishno devi are pretty much screwed up. I have scant respect for what maintenance our inter state bus operators would do, unless its a premium bus service like those for intl visitors.

EDIT: I hope its bulletproof. That matters more than anything else.

Err... These buses are NOT bulletproof. They are just regular DTC Tata-Marcopolos tinted black. That was the main reason the Canadian Team wanted the Royal Mounted Canadian Police as escorts for the buses.

I guess there was a recommendation from the CommonWealth Games organizing committee and the Delhi Police to buy bulletproof buses for the athletes to be ferried in. However, it was struck down because they couldn't find a supplier who could procure them at such short notice. I pray that the Indian Mujahideen has some sympathy for the CWG, I or rather nobody would want untoward incidents during the CWG, which is going to be important for the image of India as a whole in the international arena.

Phamilyman, these buses can't be bullet proof as the timeframe within which Canadian Team raised the issue and the Jet Black Tinted buses were on road isn't enough to get the entire fleet deployed on Hockey WC Bullet-proof. Moreover Bulletproofing as we know costs a bomb, no way would've these buses been bullet-proofed as post-Hockey WC they'll be of no use.

Fountainheader, I thought about the Security aspect but since these buses operate in the open and their cavalcade conveys what they're upto I decided to post.

Guys, I came across about half a dozen Cherry Marcopolos and all Jet Black doing City Bus Service on and near Ring Road. It seems that the new fleet has Jet Black Tints against the old Light Brown Tints. The new buses look Woo.

DTC, keep this good work up.
