Re: Ashok Leyland 12M

When will the 12M be available in BSIV? As of now only the VIKING is available in BSIV, high time ASHOKLEYLAND got their 12M Chassis BSIV compliant, irony is that it is an Inter-city Bus Chassis but cannot be registered in a City since it is BSIII

Intercity buses can be registered in the city, even if it is BS-III. All the new Volvo B9R (9400XL) getting registered in Bangalore city RTOs (KA-01-05) are BSIII Variants. If the vehicles are NOT solely intended to operate in the City, then such vehicles can be registered (Commercial vehicles). Intra-City buses, however, need to be BSIV.

Re: Ashok Leyland 12M

I have two queries related to the Leyland 12M.

1. Information regarding Leymatic AMT system. Who is the manufacturer of this system?? Is it an in house effort or from major gearbox maker?? How many speeds does the Leymatic system on the 12M have??

2. Does the 12M get a retarder?? The leaflet doesnt seem to mention anything.

Re: Ashok Leyland 12M

Even this above bus from TNSTC does not have roof bars inside. Does it have to do with bus body code? If so, with the additional strengthening of the Side panels to support the roof with mounted AC, this bus should be heavier than usual. Wish they went for Leymatic as well in the buses. Would ensure that they do not lug the engine.

Good move by SETC. Affordable AC travel for the masses, and the corporation can procure more number of buses than if it were to go for Scania/Volvo/Merc coaches. I hope these buses are maintained well or else they'll follow the path of the AC services between Chennai and Pondy

Is the driver cabin air-conditioned? IMO, the driver also should be provided an AC workspace, whether the passenger saloon is separated or not, as it will ensure lower fatigue and better concentration on the roads.

Re: Ashok Leyland 12M

After all these years of lame excuses, SETC have suddenly realised the need of the hour and woken up from their stupor? Ah, it's the season of election. Makes sense!
