Our 'new' BEST busses now come with automatic transmissions, power steering, Air suspension and ABS. Auto transmission and power steering have been there for quite sometime now, but ABS and air suspension are recent additions. ABS is still on testing.

The new shaped MUTP busses plying these days adorn these features.

Drifter
Yes drifter i have experienced rides on the new mutp buses and liked it every bit. The ride is much more comfortable than before the acceleration is seamless. Are they really auto transmisions ?

Hello,

BEST had automatic buses way back in the 1970s, aroun d 1972 to 1974.

Our school, Bombay International School, used to hire BEST buses for different routes, Chembur to Babulnath, Juhu to Babulnath, and return of course, etc.

The single decker Leyland, Tiger, Comet, etc., buses then were either manual or automatic.

If I remember right, even some double deckers then, were automatic.

Lots of different types of trailers also.

Thanqx.

Are they also changing to rear mounted and smaller engines? Rear engines will allow low floors. An engine for a 10 ton truck makes no sense in a bus which is may be 5 tons and not going fast.

As far as i know there is only one automatic transmission DIESEL NORMAL bus in the fleet as of now.. that is MH01L8751.. rest all are converted to manuals..

I am not talking about a/c or the new gen kinglong or the Macropolos here..

Dont know much about Best buses but down here in Chennai the bus scene is surely rocking. A/C volvos and low floor buses with all the bells and whistles and doors which actually shut plus even sunroofs

AFAIK, the MH01-L-8751 bus that you are talking about was based at Wadala. This was the first Bharat-II bus introduced by BEST. It initially had manual transmission.

DTC (Delhi Transport Corporation) runs Automatic Transmission buses through their new buses, Tata (Marcopolo).

These buses are currently in the process of replacing ageing DTC buses.

There are AC/Non AC buses in the same transmission.
