Here is my contribution towards AMW trucks
Pros:
  • Capable of taking overload with much better Fuel Efficiency compared to TATA, AL & VE trucks
  • Less TAT compared with TATA, AL & VE
  • Aesthetically looking good compared with grand daddys TATA & AL
  • Crash worth, Air Conditioned, Semi Suspended tiltable cab
  • Heavy Duty Bogie Suspension at Rear
  • Heavy duty Lader type frame with Reinforcement channels
  • Common aggreagtes like Cummins Engine, ZF Gear box, Valeo Clutch, Meritor Axles. i.e., sourcing of spares is easy. Need not depend only on AMW A.S.S
Cons:
  • Poor service network
  • Cab is not 100% serviceable (under worst cases Cab needs replacement)
  • FE is marginally less than TATA, AL & VE under rated load condition (but the same is compensated with TAT)
  • Initial investment is higher than TATA, AL & VE

Re: Trucks Study

I happened to meet a Fleet owner from North India a few days ago. He seemed pretty pleased with the 17 AMW trucks in his fleet of about 100 trucks - the rest being Tata and AL models. His perception was that the AMWs offered superior FE (didnt press him on what kind of loads\overloads he was running) and required less maintenance vis-a-vis TML and AL.
Some fleet owners have limited understanding of their machines...the gentleman I met seemed to have a reasonable understanding of his machines and hence thought it worth mentioning his feedback.

Can you specify which models of AMW he is owning. With similar aggregates and kerb weight, i do not understand the difference in FE between TML and AMW. ALL of course has a different set of aggregates.

Goods i beleive.
Below is an example

A TATA rigid truck takes 3 days on a particular route
A Volvo will do that in 2.5 days

So Volvo has better TAT
Better TAT = Higher productivity
