Does anyone know if Swargate - Thane Shivneri buses are operational currently? Online booking seems to be suspended due to the MSRTC employees' strike.

There are some limited Shivneri buses operational. Its not planned or scheduled, but wherever they can manage the logistics. I would assume the frequency would be limited, but they are partially operational.

Mumbai - Pune route is very common, so if not Shivneri; you will surely find other Volvos / MB going to other destinations via Pune (may have some multiple stops sometimes, so its not as disciplined like Shivneri).

Suggest to go to the bus stand and wait. I believe you will surely find something in 20 mins approx (may not be Swargate, but somewhere in Pune).

Explore BlaBla Car option if comfortable. I have very good experience with it. Look for individuals with verified govt ID and rating north of 4 (out of 5).

Finally after a long wait, MSRTC gets its first lot of 8 Electric AC buses manufactured by Olectra company based at Hyderabad. By April end, another 42 are expected to join the fleet. 937 such buses will be spread across various depots in Marathwada and Vidarbha regions in near future and eventually a total of 5100+ electric AC buses will be operational across entire Maharashtra in next couple of years.

As such, these electric buses will be christened as "Shivai" , but for the Mumbai--Pune route they will be branded as "E-Shivneri" given the popularity of Shivneri Volvo/Scania buses. While E-Shivneri buses sport the same livery as current Shivneri buses, Shivai brand is said to sport the green-white combo livery.

Inauguration of these E-Shivneri buses on Mumbai(Thane)--Pune route is slated to happen on 1st May, 2023 i. e on Maharashtra day. Interestingly the fare is speculated to be Rs. 350/- which is lesser than the current Shivneri Volvo buses that charge Rs. 535/- from Pune station to Dadar, Mumbai.

Some pics of E-Shivneri buses, credits to Jadhav Bhushan and Sandip Farad from MSRTC lovers Facebook page. These buses seem to be the Olectra CX2 model e-bus that I learnt while browsing the company's official website. Didn't go much into the specifications, just noticed that power output is 360 hp.

Quick query folks. I intend to travel to Vashi tomorrow from Pune and plan to use the Shivneri service. Do the Shivneri buses have 3 point seat belts? Any issues with the punctuality of the buses coz its been more then 5 yrs since I am using their services

Is it confirmed that the Thane Pune Shivneri buses are running as per the timetable seen on the MSRTC website?

From my limited knowledge, I would like to understand if there are any bus operators who provide 3 point seat belts at all. I have mostly seen 2 point/lap belts but that is it.

Shivneri services have pretty much remained consistent and punctual including the frequencies during the day time. So, in case you miss a bus you can wait for the next one which hardly is 15-20m away.

Can someone please tell me if these or the Shivshahi buses let you board at Borivali/Dadar and get off at Kalamboli just before the expressway and pay only for this journey?

No they don't. Dadar Panvel normal buses run on this route. Shivneri or any other Shivshahi or any outstation bus won't let you board.

I travelled between Pune and Thane yesterday using the Shivneri services and following are the observations.
1. The MSRTC app is one of the worst. It took me 3 attempts to book one side journey from Pune to Thane & once while return when i picked from passenger list. When I entered manually the passengers it went through. The app did allow me to select the first 8 seats even though were showing as empty or not booked. When I entered a female passenger, the app refused to proceed unless the ID proof is entered (for the Mahila Sanman discount) and no option to select the proof appeared. All in all the app needs a massive intervention and aesthetics.
2. The journeys were very uneventful, tiring and frustrating. The no of stops and time lost in each stop added to the overall time, onward journey the bus was 1 hr late and in the return it was 2 hrs late. The AC wasn't effective in both the journeys and the drivers shrugged off saying they couldn't do much.
3. Incidentally both the drivers had a very irritating habit of honking even the road was clear, guess the habit doesn't die off so easily. Had to remind both of them to minimize the honking.

The Shivneris used to be the go to transportation when they were introduced, the prices were affordable for the service provided (I remember being given the newspaper and water bottle) but I think nowadays the fleet has aged and need desperate maintenance in terms of AC, seats, lights and rest of the equipment. This was a point to point service with few stops but now its like a passenger train halting everywhere within city limits.
