Re: The Oka from Hindustan Motors

This was one vehicle that was truly ahead of its times. It belongs to a niche the UNIMOG caters to. Awesome vehicle, I thought hard about buying one when it was launched, but then better sense prevailed!

Re: The Oka from Hindustan Motors

I can remember the RTV was offered with a Simpsons diesel engine along with the 2.0 L Isuzu diesel.

Steering was hard. For a person who learnt how to drive and maintained an Amby for 13 years, I found the steering quite heard.

Pick-up was nothing with the Simpsons diesel.

Ride? Very harsh. I found very uncomfortable and was apprehensive with such a high CG.

May be the concept was good but the execution was way off the mark.

I dropped the idea of buying that and after a few months settled for a Bolero Camper.

Re: The Oka from Hindustan Motors

IMO Mahindra should take over the rights to this vehicle, put in a gutsy diesel engine and full 4x4 system and create the Indian Unimog.

It makes no sense using it for ferrying labourers. Magic etc can do that job cheaper and better.

Re: The Oka from Hindustan Motors

Two more Okas sighted by me in the NCR. These appear to be still popular as people carriers here as fellow bhpians from Delhi have already said. Most of these run on CNG I believe.

Here is a 2002 one belongs to Health Department Maharashtra.

Sadly this & others like this have been auctioned off as scrap.

Re: The Oka from Hindustan Motors

Is it just to me that the wheels look small when compared to the size of the Oka?

A bigger set of wheels would look proportionate and work better i guess.
