This is slightly OT, as this thread is predominantly a DIY thread, but I wanted to share my experience.
Visited Ford A.S.S. and told them about the issue. The technician removed the old mesh filter and replaced it with a new one. Now the air is a lot cleaner and the cooling efficiency has increased noticeably.

It was a very pleasant experience as they didn't charge a single rupee for the job (except Rs. 168 for the new filter). I even asked them to clean the engine air filter and they obliged again, free of cost!
What a remarkable turnaround for a company once notorious for their indifferent A.S.S.
