Exhaustive DIY: Cabin AC Filter cleaning of the Ford Figo

As gemini said, his car's AC filter was replaced at the F.A.S.S in just few minutes. So I guess there may be some other short-cut to access the filter (known to mechanics). But as a DIY,I am sure that the way I accessed the filter was the only way to get it done.

The filter is behind the gear lever console, and that console is a single piece. So it had to be taken apart. Also the filter is not flexible so that it could be bent and removed without any interference with the fuse box. Due to this the fuse box was required to be dismantled.

Amazingly documented, Very well explained. but i will like to mentioned that there is no need to remove the center console for the procedure, when i cleaned the AC filter all that i remeved was the Glove box removed the Fuse box and then was able to remove the AC filter,

The filter cover, which is fixed by 6 screws is half behind the console. ie, almost 3 screws are behind the center console plastic shroud. How did you unscrewed them without removing the console?

Fantastic detailed instructions

. I cleaned my Xylo's filter yesterday and it took just 10 minutes to get to the filter using these directions. For a running of about 30K, there was considerable dust and leaves/twigs on the filter. Cleaning was easy using soap and low pressure water. I was done in under 20 minutes. There is now a noticeable improvement in the AC performance/volume of air entering the cabin.

Note: I have a E4 and it does not come with the damper as is the case of E8.

I did this in my Fiesta S too. This was done after 30000km.

The first impressions after this cleaning procedure were-

1. Slight Improvement in AC performance (cooler air)
2. No more slight foul smell that I had before

You removed the center console to access the filter? What about the fuse box?

Just the LHS panel. It is held on by a plastic screw and two clips. You just have to remove the screw (requires quite some fiddling) and then pull the panel near the gear lever side to pull out the two clips.

And yes, the fuse box needs to be removed. Don't worry, just remove the two bolts that you can see and remove by pushing upwards and then towards yourself. You will NOT break it, it is pretty solidly built. Just to be on the safe side, remove the negative from the battery.

After that, its very easy to take out the filter and clean it.

It does make a difference as I told you before.

I guess fiesta's center panel has removable side shrouds.. In the figo it is a single piece unit. Therefore the entire console has to be taken out.

If the AC is used with the recirculation mode always, should the cowl filter still need to be replaced periodically?

I cleaned the AC wire mesh filter of my Figo today. I did not have to remove the complete centre console. Just removing the left side screws and renoving the fuse box did the trick for me. The panel is soft plastic and bends easily, making it easy to pull out the filter.

Strangely, the filter was not that dirty, having been driven in Delhi's pollution for 85k km

Same here - Drive around in Delhi and Noida but filter was relatively clean. Maybe since I never use outside air it is clean. I wanted to know if there is another filter that has to be cleaned near the wipers?

Hi,

Has anyone tried cleaning the air filter on the new Ford Figo? Is the procedure the same as described in this thread or is there any difference? My 1 yr old Ford Figo Titanium Tdci is almost 16k and I do feel a reduction in the cooling efficiency as well as some odour when the Climate Control is turned on.
