DIY - Fiesta v1/Classic Gear Knob Change

Here's a quick one to change a gear knob on a fiesta.

The thing is, the fiesta has a knob with a thread running underneath through which you pull a snap tie, and this holds up the gaiter.
Same in the beat, I think.

So you basically pull the gaiter down over the knob, and then the snaptie holds it on the knob.

The knob I had was this, and for a year it had been lying around, and I had not been able to figure out a way to put it up, and keep the gaiter/surround up as well.

Then I managed to break an LED bulb today and found a perfect solution, that
fit snugly on the stick.
The highlighted bit:

So here we go.
The gaiter doesnt come off by itself.
A section of the console comes off too.
here's how:

With the whole bit pulled up over the knob, youll see the snap tie.
Undo/cut this, and the gaiter can be pulled down.
Then rotate and remove the knob.

Now the jugaad bit.
The ford knob extends quite a ways, while the Momo ended a bit early.
The exposed steel shaft was looking, well, exposed.
So I pulled down a bit a of thick ribber tubing, and cut it off to cover the exposed bit.
The LED bulb bit was attached then to the bottom with Mseal (my trusted friend...)
This bit from the bulb is what will hold the gaiter's snaptie.

It grew dark, so the pics aint coming out well.
Plus there is a bit of finishing still to be done.

I'll see if this looks fine after sanding and polishing.
If not, then Ill get a a new gaiter made.
Any Cobbler will make it.
Its very easy to change.

Go-fast gearknob done!!

I didn't know it was not easy to change the shifter. I was planning on getting one of these from the US.

For the Ford, yes it is.
I didn't know I had to get a specific one to fit.

In my santro, it was a straightforward unscrew, remove, screw in.
Which was why I assumed and ordered for the fiesta too.

Nice gear knob there but the visible rod does spoil the beauty of it.

I have always felt the gear shifter in Fiesta way too big and not that short and sporty like say a Swift. And I was in fact wondering if there was a way to shorten it without affecting the shift quality. Did you try any such?

Is there any other change you made to shifter? that you have photos pending to be loaded here?

:(

I covered it up with half a centimeter thick rubber.
but, yeah, it does look a lil bit like a giraffe. I have a leather guy who I just have to get to one of these days to get a gaiter made.
As far as shortening, no,nothing has been done, nor is it planned. However, i have seen on Ford and Honda forums that its a small job.
however, the associated pains of the extra effort in the throws has put most people off where i have seen it.
Making it a short shifter is even more painful. Someone here has done it on a honda i think, you could look it up.

ya, noticed the thick rubber around the gear stick. May be if the leather part is completely removed and replaced only near the plastic part, that might look like in a Mustang then but that will not suite the rest of the interior.

Thanks for the details on short shifter and if its going to trouble, then let me stay away.

Full Aluminium hand cooker in the current summer
Fits like stock, so no rod exposed.
